Very good point... I disagree with psychoanalysis, however, I have never practiced such because it is very easy to become liable. Also psychoanalysis is purely Freudian... and I disagree with virtually all of Freud's theories minus the defense mechanisms.
GPs often do not practice psychoanalysis because of the liability issues and insurance... the biggest problem I have seen in some of my clients is medication their GP has prescribed... mostly SSRI and other happy medicine.
The therapy you are speaking of is called self realization... in counseling it is never good to point out to someone their ills... you must let them realize what they are doing...
