Re: G. A. Mangun Bridge
I think the kissing bridge is about the only place on the campgrounds I havent kissed... Well... there and inside the Sanctuary or the Prayer Chapel.
Outside the Sanctuary? Check
Between the Maintenance shack and the old bathrooms? Check
In the field by the stables? Check
In the lots on both ends of the Chow Hall? Check
Right outside the Conqueror's Hall? Check
INSIDE the Conqueror's Hall? CHECK!
oh...not inside any of the dorms, either
In the woods beyond the private cabins and girls dorms? Check
this list goes on and on...

I think that it is perfect. Though I didn't know the Bishop I knew of him from afar. It seems to me that naming a bridge after him is fitting. You can build walls or bridges with the same material and from what I can tell Bishop Mangun built WAY more bridges in his life than he did walls.

You best not have kissed in the dorms, seeing as how they were segregated! Male --- Female !

Re: G. A. Mangun Bridge
I use to have a picture of the "kissing bridge!" Wish I knew where it was... I would post it!

Re: G. A. Mangun Bridge
Might better research that again.
One man on the Rapides Parish Police Jury tried to ramrod this. The Police Jury as a whole then voted against endorsing this or running with it.
http://www.thetowntalk.com/article/2...l-leader-fails
The state legislature would have to do this, and without the backing of the parish police jury as a whole, it isn't likely to happen.
A Town Talk poll showed folks around here 89 percent to 11 percent against renaming the bridge for GA Mangun.
I personally would be for it--he has done a lot for central Louisiana. I can, however, understand the problem of naming a bridge after a religious leader of one particular denomination.
No state legislator in this area is going to ramrod this with the constituency around here overwhelmingly against it.
My guess is, TF Tenney grandstanded with Jindal there and said something to the effect: "We need to name that new bridge after Brother Mangun!"
The governor has nothing to do with that other than try to use his influence. I'm sure that is far on Bobby Jindal's backburner: he's got problems enough here since he's trying to cut public education to the bone.
If GA Mangun is honored by something with his name on it, it's most likely going to have to be something on the camground and done by the UPC.
Now granted, the Police Jury voting down almost unanimously to endorse this does not mean the legislature can't take it up.
But with folks here so overwhelmingly against it, no single legislator is going to risk alienating a big segment of the population.
Yes, renaming the OK Allen Bridge for GA Mangun is not totally impossible.
But I wouldn't hold my breath until it happened.
