Re: Drill Baby Drill but Blame Obama For The Spill
Quote:
Whose Blowout Is It, Anyway?
by Charles Krauthammer
Heres my question: Why are we drilling in 5,000 feet of water in the first place?
And of course, in the safest of all places, on land, weve had a 30-year ban on drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge.
So we go deep, ultra deep -- to such a technological frontier that no precedent exists for the April 20 blowout in the Gulf of Mexico.
There will always be catastrophic oil spills. You make them as rare as humanly possible, but where would you rather have one: in the Gulf of Mexico, upon which thousands depend for their livelihood, or in the Arctic, where there are practically no people?
Not that the environmentalists are the only ones to blame. Not by far. But it is odd that theyve escaped any mention at all.

There are some oil companies that can drill irresponsibly and messily and do so with impunity because their politics matches up with the politics of the Left.
And "right on!" with that Charles Krauthammer post. What are we doing in 5,000 feet of water when we could be safely drilling on land and along the shore? But politicians have forced us to extremes, and when something extreme happens as a result the same politicians whine and demand even larger taxes in response.

No one blames Obama for the spill.
Just his slow response.

yes, but,
when Gov. Jindall wanted to build up sand bars or barriers, it was delayed for some time to allow environmental impact studies to be done. The Feds have now agreed to allow sand bars or barriers but at a lower rate and without the funding. This dithering while the oil slick was continuously advancing is perceived as indecision and doing nothing by those who want the Federal government involved more.

Well perception means a lot.
I was under the understanding that Jindall simply wanted to bypass the EPA already established SOP for getting approval for stuff.
I was under the impression that the EPA could have approved "stuff" faster for the people of Louisiana.
Government bureacracy seems to never work for the citizens when we need immediate results.
