‘Day Without Mexicans’ planned

As a protest against Arizona’s controversial immigration law, the chambers of commerce from Nuevo Laredo to Matamoros have agreed to set May 25 as a “Day Without Mexicans” on the South Texas border.

No one's seeking to "live without Mexicans" - except perhaps the Mexican elites in Mexico itself. Those poor folk are expensive to house, feed and provide for when you're trying to run a very tightly controlled economy that pours the slop into just your own trough. Better to send them North and then complain about "discrimination."

American liberals are such saps that they'll line up and demand that other people pay to support public services for these unfortunate people. That's why American liberals are in such close step with the Mexican elites - both groups want somebody else to fix society's ills and they want somebody else to pay for it.

If Zachary Scott had had his way, everything "from Nuevo Laredo to Matamoros" would have been annexed to the US and all of the people in the region would already be US citizens long ago.

AND... "Matamoros" means literally: "KILL THE MUSLIMS!" What's with that?

Exactly! Good post, I agree! La Raza is trying to do what Zachary Scott wanted to do.

Saint James the Moor-slayer (Santiago Matamoros) - iconographic type of St. James, son of Zebedee in Battle of Clavijo (Spain, 844) against Muslims, symbol of Reconquista.

According to Spanish legend, Saint James appeared as a warrior on his white horse with white banner to help Christian armies of king Ramiro I in battle against the Moors. They win and James became known as "Matamoros" and to this day he's Spain's patron saint.

I believe Matamoros is named after Mariano Matamoros, a Catholic priest who fought in the Mexican War of Independence.

On the subject of Muslims, many are coming through South American, learning Spanish and entering the USA disguised as Mexican Illegals. That is another reason to support border control.

"Zachary Scott?" Just caught that gaff. I've conflated the names of two generals together; Winfield Scott and Zachary Taylor.

About the closest thing we have is West Kill, New York... where "kill" is a corruption of the Dutch word for "stream." I suppose "Catskill" is another example. But "Mata Moros" means literally "Kill the Moors" or "Moors Killer," where "Moors" is the old Spanish word for the Muslim invaders.

I am shocked by this insensitivity. Just shocked!
