Re: Apostolic Minister/State Rep. voted for AZ bil

My understanding is that his dad was a pastor in El Salvador with the Assembly ... which makes this a little more interesting ....

The Assembly has a centralized church govt' ...

Was his dad placed to pastor a church in Arizona ... and helped by the Assembly to gain entry?

Yes his dad is the pastor of an Apostolic Assembly church in Arizona.

Steve in addition to being a state rep ... serves as the Vice President of the Assemblies' Youth Division .... and the church's assistant pastor / youth pastor

That makes him hypocritical? How? What would be expected in order for it to not be hypocritical? For him to turn them all over to law enforcement? The bill in question isn't even asking for that kind of action. It's just giving law enforcement the right to check immigration status when a person is detained for ANOTHER lawful cause.

I am not for harsh, cruel tactics in dealing with illegal immigration. However, as a pastor, he has an obligation to encourage his constituency to obey the law.

He demonstrated courage in voting the way he did, no doubt knowing it would make him unpopular. It appears that other Hispanic lawmakers voted in a way that will retain their popularity.

The article bears that out. This is what it is for most people supporting the bill.

He represents the Litchfield Park area ... haha good luck getting re-elected. Have to pray he doesn't get killed for taking this stance. He says he's getting death threats, and I believe him since he represents that area.

if caught kick them out and whatever company gives a job to illegal aliens should be penalized heavily. If he voted to give his state the authority to ACTUALLY FINALLY do something. Then GOOD FOR HIM!

Wouldn't be suprised! Typical and they talk about it's a moral issue. What a joke!

Re: Apostolic Minister/State Rep. voted for AZ bil

What is most disappointing to me is that an Apostolic news organization would cast the minister in a negative light for acting on principle.

Romans 13 tells us what our obligations are in regard to being good citizens. Paul wrote the passage, and he was very familiar with being persecuted by governments--and yet he still encouraged people to try to be law-abiding, peaceful citizens. He didn't encourage anarchy or revolution--he encouraged submission.
