"wealth distribution" does not always help the poor.
Actually, a federal sales tax is fairer, because everyone pays a percentage of what he/she spends.

Fairer? On top of state sales tax? On top of Federal income tax? On top of enviromental tax on energy? Whats left? You have a 2 class system...the have nots that are force to take public transportation and who are poorer than before. And the Haves, who drive their expensive cars and are less rich than before.
Sam as far as I am concerned everyone that is for a new program that demands more money through taxes, should volunteer to pay those taxes while the rest of us can opt out. Im already hurting without the Feds tacking on MORE taxes on the goods and services I buy. It won't seem very fair to the people who are barely making it now

Re: Ready for a Federal sales tax?
BTW Back when gas was skyrocketing and everyone was concerned about 5 dollar a gallon gas, Obama was asked what he thought and he said he was alright with gas that high, but he just was not ok with it going up so fast...
Well that reveals who and what Obama is and what we can expect. Higher gas prices through taxation. A Federal Sales tax and an Environmental tax to generate money and force the peons into public transportation so only the rich elites can drive the cars on the road and burn their lights in their houses all day long and over water their laws and get away with it

I didn't say I was FOR a Federal Sales Tax.
I said I was surprised that they haven't enacted it before now. Someone said about a certain Dem, "he never met a tax that he didn't like."
I also said that it was "fair." By "fair" I meant that everyone paid the same percentage i.e. it is not graduated to favor certain income groups. If the Fed. tax is one percent, everyone would pay 1 percent on all their purchases. If they buy beans and cornmeal they pay an additional 1 percent on beans and cornmeal. If they buy steak and caviar they pay an additional 1 percent on steak and caviar. If they buy a clunker used car from Belchfire motors they pay an additional 1 percent on that clunker. If they buy a Mercedes from an Import place they pay an additional 1 percent on that Mercedes.
I resent the idea that my pension and Social Security income is taxed by a Federal Government and by a State Government. I also resent the idea that the money taken from me by the Feds is redistributed to special interests and needless pork barrel projects.
Long ago I read in economics 101 that the Federal Government has no income of its own. The only way the Feds can give money to one person is to first take it from another person.

Re: Ready for a Federal sales tax?
Like I said, when you are poor...or even middle class and are already stressed out financially, a Federal sales tax that is even for all classes, won't seem fair

Re: Ready for a Federal sales tax?
We don't need a new tax. We need TAX REFORM. Personally, I believe we need a national Flat Tax with household exemptions as outlined in Dick Armey's Flat Tax proposal.

Re: Ready for a Federal sales tax?
Remember, with a "Fair Tax" system (national sales tax system) those who can buy items wholesale and major corporate bodies wouldn't pay a dime.

Re: Ready for a Federal sales tax?
Flat tax? Fair tax?
Look at the added taxes you pay on your cell phone bill ;and we pay taxes on our elec bill and water/gas bill, we have outrageous property taxes , plus state and federal income taxes.........
Deductions on my paycheck are approx 30%. Sorry but I'm not in favor of any more sharing of my hard earned money.

Re: Ready for a Federal sales tax?
Im pretty sure the left will try to push harsh gasoline tax in the future and even a tax if your car is before a certain date or is not a hybrid
