He stops spending in just about every way possible. lowers his heat to 60 and wears a winter coat at home, eats ramen noodles and walks to work.
for two years he lives like this and pays off all his bills.
Second man has too many credit card bills and is about to go bankrupt.
he keeps spending like there is no tomorrow, thinking that eventually he will get a better job and in the meantime, he convinces a bank to refinance his house and give him cash so he can pay off the credit card bills.
both brag about avoiding bankruptsy.

Economists do not agree with your assertion that the stimulus plan did not save the economy.
So who is telling the truth?

I'm not smart enough to know if the stimulus really worked or not.
Back before the first stimulus under Dubya, some economists were for it and some were against it. I doubt if we could get all the competent economists in the U.S. together and vote as to whether the stimulus worked or not and then go with the majority opinion.
Years ago someone said, "figures don't lie, but liars can figure." I'm sure if someone is in favor of the stimulus he/she could find the "figures" to prove how successful it was. Also, I'm sure that someone who is against the stimulus can find "figures" to prove that it didn't work.

The only way to allow any money to produce jobs or demand for goods, is to put the money in the hands of those who would 'spend' it.
The banks only used it to cover loses, the automakers used it to cover loses.
The money in the end did not get spent to buy a good or a service.
It took red lines on a spreadsheet and made them positive.
You want stimulation send out checks for a few grad to folks like me and I will spend it!
