Yes! See? That was my point. He also said he voted against the Stimulus. He's moving away from the "core" Democratic principles. I guess we are always a bit leery until time proves all things.
My thinking is that in the heart of even a Big Government Democrat - many still want their American freedom and don't want to live in a Socialist country. Not that we don't have problems, but we aren't totally Socialist yet.

Re: Democratic Alabama Congressman joins GOP!!!
I concur.
We have got to vote out the ones for this in 2010, ensuring the last two years of the Obama presidency will be a lame duck administration.
We need to start with Harry Reid, even if we don't live in his district, we can try to influence those who do.

Careful, he may try to have you put in jail like another Democrat Rep, Alan Grayson from Florida, is trying to do with a critic.
Quote:
Rep. Alan Grayson (D-Fla.), prone for throwing his own political bombs at Republicans, has threatened a local critic with five years in jail for creating the website “mycongressmanisnuts.com,”
The Orlando Sentinel reports that Grayson wrote a letter this week to Attorney General Eric Holder demanding that the federal government imprison Republican activist Angie Langley for five years because of her website criticizing him.
The website, designed to raise money against Grayson, catalogues videos and news clippings that portray the provocative congressman in an unfavorable light. It courts donors to donate money to help elect his Republican challenger next year – collecting $3,725 to date.
Grayson accuses the activist of misrepresenting the fact that she’s a constituent of his (she lives outside his district).
“Ms. Langley has deliberately masqueraded as a constituent of mine, in order to create the false appearance that she speaks for constituents who don’t support me,” Grayson wrote in the letter.

Absurd. Hopefully he'll get tossed and voted out in the next election.

Re: Democratic Alabama Congressman joins GOP!!!
When talking about socialism I believe one has to ask the question: Can you have socialist programs and not be a socialist nation (with regard to government)? The United States is in that boat. Medicare is a socialist healthcare program, yet, we are not a socialist nation. The extent we go with regard to becoming a socialist nation is yet to be determined. Whether we have a Dem, Rep, Ind, or other individual at the helm of our nation I think we will always take another step in that direction (some more than others).
In terms of this particular Congressman stepping across the aisle. I believe that he was never fully on the Dem. side; because as he stated the Dem's do not represent his morals and values, and I don't think either side has changed too much over the years. I honestly don't believe that any politician is either fully Dem or Rep. It is a matter of picking the side the has more pros than cons. To me all politicians are the same. When I heard this in the news I must say that I do wonder if this is all sham. Time will tell. I vote for President, however, regardless of what one says during a campaign, in the end they are all politicians, and they all make deals behind closed doors. Ted Kennedy was an excellent senator, but he did the same thing.

I agree. He was more likely a bluedog or conservative democrat.

I agree. I was telling my husband that I wonder what deals Bush made? The only difference I see is that this Administration isn't exactly hiding their threats behind closed doors. It's as though they have no fear.
That makes me think that the major financial backers of many entities are propping them up with courage. OR they started out thinking the country was more far left than they had anticipated. Could be a little of both.

The US is NOT a socialist nation? Who are you kiddin?
Just what are they now? I heard a financial expert speaking last Sat. that one reason Americans are having a hard time with the recovery is that they are expecting a Capitalistic recovery, ie: recovery=jobs! He made the comment that what they are having is a socialistic recovery as they are a socialistic nation now.
The US has walked through a door that will not be closed in 2010, there will not be enough change in the house or congress to effect a change.
Welcome to high taxes and big government!

I definitely agree that the Obama administration is definitely "in your face" compared to past administrations.

Yes the U.S. has walked through a door and everything that we see happening is all prophecy being fulfilled. So, to me there is no reason to fret about high taxes and big government. Regardless of who is sitting in the oval office taxes will increase to some degree and big government; well it will only get bigger. These things happen in the big scandalous world of politics. And no, I'm kidding anyone, but we are not a socialist nation.

Re: Democratic Alabama Congressman joins GOP!!!
He was elected as a Democrat.
I assume he received support (including finances) from the Democratic Party.
Now that he is in office, can he legally switch parties without paying back the Democratic Party?
Or can he legally switch parties since he was elected as a Democrat?
Shouldn't he have to remain a Democrat until the next election and then run as a Republican?
If this is not a legal issue, is it a moral issue?
