Let's understand the state of the law now. If a man can convince two women to live with him, that is perfectly legal, the only thing is he can only claim one for his wife legally. There is no law against living with multiple women, you just can't claim marriage to more than one.

If the state is removed from marriage it actually strengthens marriage, because individuals who get married do so by the authority of their church rather than the state.

Man I don't know where you get this stuff. Yes, there is a fringe movement that want's to make it legal to have sex with children and animals, but taking the state out of marriage has no connection to that whatsoever.

Grab the code book for whatever state your in and you can see that the crime of statutory rape is not listed under your marriage laws. Marriage is civil, statutory rape is criminal, seems you have confused the civil and criminal before on AFF.

For instance in DC marriage laws are found in Sections 16 and 46.

Sexual offenses are in section 22 under the criminal section.

They have no connection at all.

That's just plain silly. A child cannot consent and that is why statutory rape crimes are strict liability. If you have sex with a child that falls into that age group you have committed a crime regardless of what you believed about that persons age.

The number of people that promote such nonsense are so few that they have no relevance.

It is not the right of the pedophile it is the right of the child that is being protected.

And if the state is not involved in marriage, then the only way you can have a gay marriage is through the church.

Look, the majority of people see NAMBLA for what it is, I would bet even the majority of the gay population rejects NAMBLA's position. I don't know a single gay person who thinks NAMBLA's ideas are good.

Marriage validated by the state does not prevent NAMBLA from pushing its views, it has no significance whatsoever in this debate it is a red herring. They aren't asking to marry young boys they are asking states to decriminalize their perverted activities.

One is criminal, the other is civil. It is really us asking the state for permission to be married, kind of sick if you think about it.

Won't this free churches from potentially being required to perform a religious ceremony for a gay couple? The lack of state regulation could be a VERY good thing.
