Very sad times for the church involved.

Just to clear up something, he wasn't the youth leader - he was a temporary intern. Which doesn't make the situation any better, except that he was not a regular hired employee of the church. This church is pastored by some of our very best friends and they have weathered storms before - I know they will make it through this. But they all do need prayer!

I know the news and church spokesman say he was just an intern, but he was the youth leader. Not full-time or staff, but he was responsible and in charge of the student ministry. This temporary intern spin is a way to calm things down and deflect questions. I know several people who attend the church, including some relatives ... almost attended there myself. He led and spoke at the student services ... even supervised and was in charge of their camping trip a month or so ago.

The guy involved was formerly in the UPC and graduated from IBC.

The church is in my prayers. Good church, pastor, staff and congregation ... one of the friendliest churches in that area. They just expanded and opened a new campus ... terrible thing that this happened to distract and try to take the joy from that opening.

Absolutely. BTW, there are many Bible College [UPCI] graduates that have done the same thing in other churches. It is difficult to hide these days with the laws the way they are and society being the way it is.

I, for one, am thankful that they are being prosecuted and exposed. The day of not telling to "protect the church" or "protect the family" is over with. So many lives have been messed up and forever altered with church leadership/employees molesting children.

BTW - It was never the church being protected because by keeping it quite it just breeds more victimization of others. The reputations being protected were those of the Pastor and leadership and not the victims. Have we ever thought that "God's protecting the church" comes through exposing sin?

Blessings, Rhoni

Re: Youth Leader arrested

Just an observation: Since the happening was at a friend of a friend's church then perhaps we have loyalty issues that cloud our judgement. I am not saying that I may not be persuaded differently if the perpetrator was a family member or the friend of a friend, but this is the reason for past coverups that have not bode well for the victims.
