Re: Johanns Amendment to De-fund Acorn

ACORN will continue to live on and thrive as it gorges on taxpayer's dollars and continues to promote racism, voter fraud, etc.

They will continue to receive huge amounts of money from the federal government because they promote the program of the Democratic Party.

They operate under many different names, aliases, and false front organizations and President BHO and Democratic legislators are inextricably wrapped together with them in their chicanery and they OWE them big.

Re: Johanns Amendment to De-fund Acorn

I had never heard of ACORN before last year. Does anyone have info as to how big of an organization they are and how many votes they are involved with and how many are being questioned?

From their website: http://www.acorn.org

Quote:
Who is ACORN?

ACORN is the nation’s largest grassroots community organization of low- and moderate-income people with over 400,000 member families organized into more than 1,200 neighborhood chapters in about 75 cities across the country. Since 1970, ACORN has been building community organizations that are committed to social and economic justice, and won victories on thousands of issues of concern to our members, through direct action, negotiation, legislative advocacy and voter participation. ACORN helps those who have historically been locked out become powerful players in our democratic system.

Community organizing: Each of the 1,200 local ACORN neighborhood chapters in about 75 and 40 states brings neighbors together to work for stronger, safer and more just communities.

Issue campaigns: Each ACORN office carries out multiple issue campaigns. ACORN members across the country work to raise the minimum wage or enact living wage policies; eliminate predatory financial practices by mortgage lenders, payday lenders, and tax preparation companies; win the development of affordable housing and community benefits agreements; improve the quality of and funding for urban public schools; rebuild New Orleans; and pass a federal and state ACORN Working Families Agenda, including paid sick leave for all full time workers.

A recent study shows that our issue campaign victories have delivered approximately $15 billion in direct monetary benefits to our membership and constituency over the past 10 years.

Service delivery: ACORN and its allied organizations provide extensive services to our members and constituency. These include free tax preparation focusing on the Earned Income Tax Credit; screening for eligibility for federal and state benefit programs; and, through the ACORN Housing Corporation, first time homeowner mortgage counseling and foreclosure prevention assistance, and low income housing development.

Ballot initiatives: ACORN-backed ballot-initiative campaigns in 2006 helped raise the minimum wage in Ohio, Arizona, Missouri and Colorado, working with community-faith-labor coalitions on successful campaigns in each state.

Voter participation: Since 2004, ACORN has helped more than 1.7 million low- and moderate-income and minority citizens apply to register to vote.

ACORN is a non-profit, non-partisan social justice organization with national headquarters in New York, New Orleans and Washington, D.C.
I find the last sentence claiming to be non-partisan a bit of a stretch......

I think we learn more in-depth information by reading and referencing on-line than we do on MSM. I rarely get my information from the television.

Obama has ties with Acorn as a trainer and using them in '92 for voting purposes, as well as, his presidential campaign. That's pretty well public knowledge.

AHC is Acorn Housing Corporation. They've been tied up with Citibank on an alien home racket loan scheme.

The banks are paying the price to keep organizations like ACORN and Hispanic lobbyists from Nat'l Council of LaRaza from screaming about "predatory lending".

These professional "protesters" or better worded "grievance-mongers" turned the '77 Community Reinvestment Act into a very lucrative business opportunity. What it did was force lenders to sacrifice underwriting standards for "diversity".

Henry Cisneros, who used to be our Mayor in San Antonio, was an Advisory Council Member and had to resign over an illicit affair.

I think I read they have around 170 or so affiliates. I don't have the organization names handy.

I think when things come to a head - the current Administration is going to take the fallout. But, I've very certain both Republicans and Democrats can take the blame for all of this.

Henry did not HAVE to resign he chose to because of his affair. Big difference.

Re: Johanns Amendment to De-fund Acorn

My question is looking for hard numbers as to how many votes are in question etc... At the moment based on some of the coverage, it seems that they are the biggest, most influential, most corrupt agency in the entire country who single-handedly delivered the election to BHO. I just am not familiar with them enough to know if this is accurate or not.

Obviously they have problems and need to be either punished or disbanded, but are they as big as their coverage? I honestly don't know. I guess I'll have to look into it.

I think it's the evolving stories. It just keeps getting bigger and covering so much - voter fraud, prostitution, mortgage and loan scandals.

Re: Johanns Amendment to De-fund Acorn

Tim Pawlenty governor of Minnesota wrote a letter to Commissioner Tom Hanson head of Management and Budget saying:
"By this letter, I am directing you to stop all state funding to ACORN unless the state is legally obligated to provide such funding."

To bad old president want to be didn't do a little checking. Acorn receives no funding from the state of Minnesota.
