What's most concerning about this is the flagerent abuse of power that they used to inject politics into the Justice Dept. That's a clear line that should never be crossed. They basically wanted their political enemies prosecuted whether the prosecutor felt they had broken the law or not. When fair minded Prosecutors wouldn't pursue the case against their rivals, they decided to fire those Prosecutors and replace them with political hacks who would pursue their enemies.

Very Nixon-esque type of behavior.

Re: Karl Roved lied about the firings

From the NYT article:

Robert Luskin, a lawyer for Mr. Rove, said the material released Tuesday demonstrated that there was “absolutely no evidence” the White House had used inappropriate political motivations to punish federal prosecutors. Mr. Luskin said Mr. Rove and other White House aides were legitimately concerned about voter fraud and were debating “completely reasonable and legitimate policy questions.”

Another idiotic claim from mikey

The current corrupt Justice department had a default judgement against back Panthers that hassled voters. They released the case. Mike doesn't know what flagrant abuse of power is. Too deep reading the new yoork times and checking out the models.

Karl Rove has said in interviews and apparently before Congress that he either a.) couldn't remember (how convienient) or b.) he was only a conduit of complaints about the Prosecutors.

The emails that have finally been released by the Bush administration (after a court battle) show that he was much more than that. He actively worked to have the N.M. and Arkansas U.S. Attorneys fired for political reasons. That's fact.
