Did you have invasive surgery or did you have IDET ?

well, if you have a disk replacement/spinal fusion its pretty invasive... but traditional DR/SF surgery requires that they open you from the front to remove the disk then turn you over to cut from the back to implant the metal rod. Then they also take bone from the hip to create the fusion.

I have 3 very small incision (about a half inch each) in my back where they both removed the disk and implanted the metal rod. they also used bone protein instead of taking bone from my hip.

so it was not as invasive as what has been traditional. I just missed being a candidate for disk replacement. in another few years, that will be the way to go.

Re: Im baaaack! dont know if it is a good thing

Ahh just googled... nothing like google research.

got it, I talked to the Dr about using that heat process to close the hearniation back in 2006 when I had the big episode that put me out of work for 6 months. He said i wasnt a candidate because the hearniation was too large.

it ended up being about the size of your thumb.

this time around the disk was like swiss cheese. there wasnt much disk left so I had to have a full fusion.

If you are a candidate for either the IDET or even Micro-disectomy (what I had), then you arent to the point of fusion. which is a good thing.

have you had a diskagram(sp)?

Yes, had the discogram. Lovely aren't they! LOL ......The Dr. has recommended fusion of the L4, L5, and S1. I'm not a candidate for IDET.

one of the most painful moments of my life! arrg!

Thank God I only have 1 disk that is bad!

wait as long as you can but when it is time, it is time. and be prepared for pain. but if you have back pain, then you already are.

it will be different but with time it does get better. if I am not sitting down, I actually have moments of no pain at all. havent had that in 10 years. sitting however is still pretty hard. but im getting better.

You are welcome. just one more hint.

dont go with "spiritual surgery" as Timmy suggests.
