We had to explain the difference to our kids because they were raised without tv but watched it at their grandparents' and friends' homes. They understood.

I grew up with a TV in my UPC home - - TV was never a big deal to us as kids, however, when the pastor's kids came over the house could have been on fire and they would have never known it.

Their parents didn't mind at all if they watched it, but it always amazed me that they didn't want to do anything else but watch TV.

That amazed you?
The novelty, the imageary, the pop, the fiz, the flash, the boom!

To me, it seems very understandable that in the absence of TV in a household the novelty attraction to it would be very great.

It wouldn't now, but I just remember as a kid not understanding it at all.

My parents wouldn't let me watch Bewitched, but their parents did, so they got upset when my parents wouldn't let them watch it at our house - lol!!!

Does it confuse kids when you let them watch it at hotels or family members house?
Confuse our kids? Like in the same way allowing them ice-cream for dessert?
Are you a hypocrite if you do not allow your children to only eat dessert since you permit them to eat dessert?

Why would creating a limitation or a constraint without a strict prohibition be a hypocritical or confusing act?

We create a mystique about something that has full prohibition. Let them see some of what's out there without their own homes being hooked to the source.

Truthseeker,

You need to define for us if having a TV is taught to the children as it being a sin.

What is the reason they are being given as to why the TV is not in their home.

The poll is skewed because I have never viewed watching TV (or having TV) as sin or sinful activity.

I know many who abstain from TV (most of the time) because they simply don't see it as a wise use of time. Now if these same people are comdeming others for watching TV, then do so themselves behind closed doors THAT is hypocrisy IMHO.

No we don't teach it as such. We haven't gone a whole over it. I've heard by son say to much tv is bad your mind. We don't have TV because I don't want one. It's harder to control then other medias,IMO. But I do like some things on tv and watch it on vacation but have questioned myself if it be hypocritical in the kiddies mind. I do believe without one we have more family interaction. Whe I say TV I mean regular, we do have family DVDs(not the kind from movies) and we do let them watch some stuff via the net.

I wouldn't mind an outdoor channel to watch some bass fishing.

Then it's not hypocritical in your case.

If you teach it's a sin and let them at other places, then it's hypocritical as others have said here.
