Ours don't have guns (that we know of). Knowing some of them though, they may have some concealed somewhere.

Re: Baptist Pastor Shot In Pulpit Today

How tragic. It will be interesting to find out any details.

Had the man attended church there?
Was he a disgruntled saint?
Had the pastor recently preached what some would call an "inflammatory" message?
OR
Was he just a deranged individual and somehow the church wound up as his target?

We have had some strange people come into our church, and at times have had some approach the pulpit in a threatening manner, but they have always been handled and nothing really happened.

We did have an interesting thing happen a few weeks ago. One of the saints has "laying" hens. On a Sunday morning, whe asked the pastor's wife if they would like some fresh eggs and received an affirmative answer. That night she came into church carrying two cartons of eggs (don't ask me why she didn't have them in some type of bag, but she didn't). The ushers were making the rounds talking among themselves and a few of the elders regarding how to handle the "lady who brought the eggs." It was hilarious! They were sure that she had an ulterior motive in mind when she walked in with those eggs.

This is a funny scenario, but I'm glad that they were being cautious. You never know what some looney is going to do. But to think that this particular lady was going to throw eggs was side-splitting funny!

The shooter tried to stab himself evidently, but he is still living. I pray that God gets a hold of him before it's too late.
My husband was ministering in a church just a few minutes away from where this happened, scary.

We have law officers that attend our church. one of them always has his ankle holster.

This news is so tragic. Just reading the news stories about it on the web.

The pastor and his family looked like such a nice family.

We shall keep them in our prayers.

Re: Baptist Pastor Shot In Pulpit Today

CC has several off duty cops for directing traffic and then security during the services. They are armed and in uniform. In addition I beleive they have security volunteers and of course a lot of ushers.

In this day and age I believe every church should think about and plan for any situation that could come up. At the very least ushers should have a plan of action for these type situations and should be stationed at strategic locations near entrances / exits, etc.

"We did not wear uniforms. The lady workers dressed in the current fashions of the day, ...silks...satins...jewels or whatever they happened to possess. They were very smartly turned out, so that they made an impressive appearance on the streets where a large part of our work was conducted in the early years.

"It was not until long after, when former Holiness preachers had become part of us, that strict plainness of dress began to be taught.

"Although Entire Sanctification was preached at the beginning of the Movement, it was from a Wesleyan viewpoint, and had in it very little of the later Holiness Movement characteristics. Nothing was ever said about apparel, for everyone was so taken up with the Lord that mode of dress seemingly never occurred to any of us."

Re: Baptist Pastor Shot In Pulpit Today

This is familiar territory; in the mid 70's we lived in Collinsville, only 4 miles from Maryville.

What a horrible thing for a church. This is such a tragedy for the pastor's family and the congregation.

Todays' news indicates the man had known mental issues. This is an area that needs more funding(?) or more lock ups perhaps. The young man who killed 8 people last year in the Omaha mall had been seeing doctors and been in facilities since he was 4! Medication seems to help, but many don't take it when they're not in a hospital.

Re: Baptist Pastor Shot In Pulpit Today

Police give the latest report on Man goes on church shooting spree, kills wife, wounds pastor. This shooting incident happened Sunday morning in Lakeland, Fla. church. The male managed to shoot and hurt the preacher and his assistant before he was tackled and stopped. The male had also hit and slain his spouse previously that morning. There will never be any type of way of weeding out the crazy folks from those who are responsible in bearing arms.

Re: Baptist Pastor Shot In Pulpit Today

What else could be said, other than this is an extremely tragic event? My own older brother has to stay on anti-psychotic meds so that he doesn't go off killing people. It is sad and tragic. However, we must also know that the killer, himself, could also repent, be baptized, receive the HG, go on to preach, heal, prophesy, raise people from the dead, and then be martyred by angry murderous mob.
