Right now we are in St. Louis for the Mattoon Marriage Retreat. We drove in to Mattoon yesterday, and then back to St. Louis today and will go back to Mattoon Sunday afternoon and then go home on Monday...lots of driving...my backside looks like a vehicle seat right now... I know, I know....too much info, but oh well....

LOL!!!!! Well, they're no different from hotels! You have to shop around until you find one you like, and then go back again and again.

I like the more personal atmosphere, the meals around a table with perfect strangers (sometimes). We stayed at one with an older couple, and there was an old organ in the living room I played for them. The meals were GREAT! It was a good experience.

I can see why you were a little traumatized.

Re: A Valentine's Day Question...?

In my dreamland, the perfect gift would be a weekend on a private Island....an island where I can see the sunrise from one side and the sunset on the other. I want all the luxuries of a 5 star hotel..... I want to walk the beach at sunset with my man... sit under stars sipping hot tea........

okay, I think a romantic breakfast without any children... I love early morning dates...... and then spend the day together... Laughing, talking, reminiscing about falling in love.... I don't need chocolates...maybe some prime rib...Mmm...... spend the night out.........

If I were back in Indiana........I'd love to spend the night at Sybaris!

Re: A Valentine's Day Question...?

I'd come home to a clean apartment. The children would be ready with gifts and cards (preferably hand picked/hand made). There'd be childcare paid for for the entire evening, overnight and next day and they would leave after sharing a nice dinner. We'd then spend time around the apartment together. Go for a walk or two. Some coffee. A drive to somewhere in nature to hike and sit and talk and spend time together.

Now, I just need someone special to plan such a thing, and to spend the time with..

Everyone has such great and romantic ideas! Foreign countries, private islands and a bread n breakfast.

I love seeing what other people like to do, gives me ideas or inspires me!

However, if I'm DREAMING as others are...I think a stay at a Bed & Breakfast in the hills somewhere, with no computers, tv, or cell phones, and a pool to swim in, sunshine to bask in for a few days, and a gourmet chef on staff--that's my idea of the perfect getaway.

Jeff and I have always wanted to go to Germany, they have some beautiful old castles, it would be a lot of fun to explore them.
My Husband and I had a crazy experience in one. The evening was fine but the next morning they brought breakfast to our room. As she opened the silver tray dome, there were some beautiful blueberry scones and the most wonderful-fluffy looking omelet.
<<I will insert here that I am not picky at all, I am pretty culinarily adventurous>>
after she left, we decided to cut the omelet in half. Out poured Cold SHRIMP! it had not been warmed, mixed with cheese or anything. I was too embarrassed to leave an uneaten omelet on the table, so I decided to break it up into pieces and flush it down the bedroom toilet. Of course the toilet didn't like the idea of eating a COLD SHRIMP omelet either and decided to back up, complete with floating pieces of fluffy egg and cold shrimp...
We got out of there soooo fast!!!

and my second thought about that... what kind of people intentionally invite couple into their home for a "lovers" weekend??
