I woke up early this morning because I had to get a lot of things done. Aside from the usual showering and getting dressed, I had to put my pork roast in my slow cooker along with potatoes and veggies, get the pinata for SS out to the car, gather lights and stick drama equipment, and get to the church by 8:30.
Ok, so now you've noticed the time. I'm not running late, however. I had to take time to tell you the sad tale you are about to read.
Just before we were leaving and the kids are getting things into the car, I'm getting my roast ready. I cut open the package and smelled it (I always do this). Smelled like rotten eggs. Ok, maybe it's me, since I'm used to eating venison (I've noticed that even hamburger smells funny to me now).
I put the roast and the juices with it into my pot. Looks ok. Doesn't smell ok. The package said it's good until the 17th. That's 9 days away. I put the lid on it without doing anything else and called LadyRev for a second opinion, as she was headed this way to get to the church.
She came over as I was upstairs finishing my hair, and I heard her say quite loudly, THAT'S GROSS, TAKE IT BACK, and she left. Wonderful. Now I'm behind in my dinner preparation.
I put the meat into several bags and tied them well. Threw it in the back seat and went to church to get our stuff together for the stick drama presentation. We took the kids to practice a couple times but the CD player wouldn't work. Thankfully, it's not the one we need for the presentation.
Forget that. Kids, you will just have to remember the movements and follow me.
So I leave for WalMart with my stinky roast. I enter the store and the greeter looks at me funny. I said to her, Just give me a sticker, you don't want me to open this bag. She laughed and put the sticker on my hand and I went to the counter.
The girl there took my word for it...LOL....as she didn't want to know what it smelled like either. She offered me another one, and I just smiled and took my money out of the store.
I went to a nearby store and got one from there. I get home to discover it isn't boneless. *sigh* Ah well, I think we can avoid the bone.
So my veggies are in and I'm having a cup of milk before getting to the church. They are serving breakfast anyway so I have time. Dinner will be at 2 instead of noon, but I guess that's ok too.
Beats eating smelly roast, right?
All is now well. I apologize if you can't find tissues.
It snowed yesterday.... eggs are hard to find in the snow... : ) Sniff....
I ran into Walmart yesterday evening to grab a roast for dinner on the grounds today. I had forgotten about it and decided to throw one in the crock pot over night. They were totally sold out and so I settled for a brisket. Cut that in half and it turned out better.
I usually don't like to buy my meat at Walmart, but we were right there and in a hurry to get home - cold, drizzling rain!!!
I'm making the Hoover's Croissant Rolls for Easter dinner tonight - - they smell wonderful rising up right now!!!!
Sounds like a good plate to bring, Renda!
I'm not in the mood for cooking lately. Probably because of all the candle work. It's almost the same as cooking all day.
Throwing that brisket in the crockpot was great for me. I did have to peel the carrots and cut up the potatoes, though (lol). Sprinkled it with Beef Boullion, celery salt, minced garlic and Fajita Spice. Turned out great. Made the gravy this morning.
