Re: The latest method for States to raise funds
I think the cameras are wrong and an invasion of privacy.

Now I don't mind seeing one if they are calibrated to catch reckless speeders (how often do you see someone wiz by you doing 85-100 and wonder 'where is a cop when you need one??'), but to use them as cheap speed traps which catch everyone who goes 10 miles or more, over the speed limit is is just.... cheap.
Anyone else think these are a brilliant idea? Anyone else ever get zapped?

That is pretty lame, however I wonder what will happen if everyone starts driving the speed limit and never ever going through a red light? These cams will no longer pay for themselves...then what?

Re: The latest method for States to raise funds
Another HUGE (and blatantly unfair) issue with these is that you don't know if you've been caught -unless it is nighttime and you see the strobe flash. If a cop pulls you over, you know instantly know the score. If a photo van dings you, you don't know..... and could potentially be hit with another one a mile or two down the road depending on the area. Then... you guessed it, you get two tickets in the mail on the same day.

Re: The latest method for States to raise funds
I don't like it! But my husband would nag me about obeying the laws of the land, and say that if I go the speed limit I have nothing to worry about.
I haven't received one...however, I did have to dispute a ticket from one of our toll roads. We have a pike pass, which allows us to drive through the toll booths without stopping, and it's electronically deducted. Well, somehow the machine messed up, and I had to show THEM that it deducted a charge when we entered the toll road, and one when we exited, but not at the booth in between. DUH!!!!! Obviously if the pike pass was working upon entrance and exit, it must be THEIR mistake ON the road. LOL!!!

Re: The latest method for States to raise funds
I have heard that they are timed as well. Meaning if you go through one pass and it is time stamped to reveal that you could have only made it there by speeding, you'll get a speeding ticket.

Re: The latest method for States to raise funds
I hate the things.
I don't go over 5 mph above the speed limit and haven't had a ticket in 12 years or so.
It amazes how how people can defend these things. We are doing things in this country now that make George Orwell's 1984 a walk in the park
Camera's at every corner.
Everything down to the IP Address you used to make the ticket reservation sent to the government routinely just because you bought an airline ticket.
National ID to soon come out.
At what point do people stop and say... Hey... enough is enough.
And it isn't even that they haven't yet had enough to cause them to revolt. It's that they are STILL touting about what a great idea it is.
We are innocent until proved guilty. I have the right to freely travel throughout this country without being under surveillance.
I am not a criminal until proven a criminal and the government shouldn't be keeping records of what I do and say or where I travel to until there is reason to do so.

Why doesn't the government obey the laws of the land and cease to have surveillance out on innocent citizens.
They have cop cars equipped with cameras so that they can drive through a parking lot and the camera will take a picture of every single license plate while he just drives through the parking lot and runs every single license plate to see if there is a warrant out etc.
I have done nothing wrong... I have only parked in a parking lot on the private property of a business... and they are running my license plate.
They have the setup where they can run license plates of cars parked on the side of the road or oncoming traffic.
How ridiculous can you get.
