Actually, early Christians were admonished to live peaceably even with the oppresive Roman government.
Personally, I believe a truly "Christian" nation would uphold the integrity of individual liberties...even perhaps some liberties that most Christians might find offensive.
Liberty itself is holy...even men use said liberty to commit sin.
You must have missed what I said that a Christian nation can only come about by regeneration. I don't believe in a state church but I do believe that the Bible commands ALL leaders to govern by it's precepts. God will judge accordingly.
"Liberty"? What is your definition? To some degree in every society morality is goverend. Anarchy can never work.

I don't see anything to be alarmed about in Obama's statements. I would echo what all the other posters in this thread have said. The fact is that America is home to many religious views. That doesn't take away from our foundations as a Christian nation.
More than anything else it should be a mandate for every true believer to spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ to those lost without him. That's a religious issue, not a political one.

Excluding anything thing else that the conservatives have brought up about Obama, should this statement alone cause concern? Have we ever been exclusively Christian?
Barack Obama made the statement with pride. . ."we are no longer a Christian nation; we are now a nation of Christians, Jews, Muslims, Buddhists, . . ."
Isn't this the "Opra doctrine" ?

In fact I think that the insinuation of "hateful" Pentecostals is coming mostly from the fertile imaginations of bitter, backslidden ex Apostolics who are constantly trying to find a way to justify their actions. ~ strait shooter
Its not an issue of "Is/was America a Christian nation".
Its more an issue of "Do you find it disturbing that Obama would be proud that Christianity is no longer as prominent in America as it once was?"

Do you find it disturbing that someone who claims to be of a certain religion, (in this case Christianity) would be proud that their preferred religion is LOSING its relevance nationwide to other religions?
Especially considering the questions/concerns revolving around his true allegiances and beliefs, I think it is a valid question.

In the west Christianity is dying and in Africa, Asia, and South America it's exploding. If Obama thinks that a pluralistic society is a good thing, that is pathetic and dangerous.

Yes but he let it slip that his religion is Muslim. That is why he can make that statement with pride.
