Long term I don't know if I would eat copious amounts of soy, it MAY not be good for males (controversial but no proof), but has no serious consequences I am aware of for females. And should be fine for anyone for a 40 day period. And by merely adding yogurt or has been pointed out taking vitamin B-12, it makes for a happier, healthier lifestyle.
The reason the Daniel fast is easier these days is that some of the soy products, especially Garden Burger brand and Morning Star are virtually indistinguishable from their counterparts, for example soy crumbles when cooked in a dish will easily pass for hamburger.
ON the other hand, when a fast becomes too comfortable, or is thought of as a diet, is it missing the point??

Re: Daniel Fast
I have done this fast before. If you are a meat eater--stay away from fast food places. Even driving by--you would be surprised at how tempting the smell of hamburgers cooking is, when you have not ate meat for a few weeks. Drink a lot of water. It will help with the detox process. Take walks, remain active, especially if you feel a headach coming on. You must keep the blood flowing and the kidneys working. Definately ease back into eating meat. Start to eat as clean a meat as possible first--like a lamb, or chicken, then turkey and steak. I would eat hamburger and pork last. Start by mixing in meat with other dishes first--like chicken and rice soup.

Re: Daniel Fast
My wife and I did a Daniel fast a few years ago. It was the hardest fast I ever did...and I'll tell you why. When I do a normal fast I don't eat...so my mind is mentally prepared to not eat. However with a Daniel fast you are eating...so watch out!! I'd catch myself grabbing a candy bar or other food and getting it to my mouth and just before taking a bite it would hit me...hey, I can't eat this...hehe. In my case it was a mental thing (I know...it sounds like a personal problem...haha). On the flip side it was a fast we really enjoyed...eating only fresh fruits and vegatables, no seasonings or any "extras".

I thought you were going to tell us that you were going to fast from reading Daniel's posts!

Personally, unless God laid it on your heart I wouldn't beat yourself up over it.

Re: Daniel Fast
Just one recommendation--if you have children who will be participating, make sure they take a vitamin supplement, and make sure they have other sources of protein and calcium other than meat & dairy during the duration.
