I do know that their symbol is not a skull and cross bones. It is very rooted in Mysticism though. My dad is a 32nd degree. He turned down the shrine because he said they were "a bunch of women chasing drunks".

A 32nd degree are " The Keeper of the Royal Secret".

What that secret is I don't know. Some study has shown that it is the secret name of God.

Do we have to quote your dad word for word here?

Yes.
A Mason is also known for getting favours when asked.

Well, before I came to God I had books on Black Magic, and the occult.
Two of the books were The Key of Slomon, and The Lesser Key of Solomon or The Lemegeton.

Gary,
is it possible that society memberships might be like easter egg hunts?

A lot of bad origins but most of the origins are unknown or are hokum to the current folks participating.

Is the issue of "pledging our allegiance to a man-made thingy"?

Any vocation-based networking has many similar codes of conduct,
AMWAY
Society of Engineers
Fireman's Associations
( I hear women-for-sale show up at a lot of their conventions also)

Gary,
what do you think are the defining perilious issues involved with these associations?
