From 1992 until 2006 I was part of the Vineyard Community Church in Springdale, OH (mailing address is Cincinnati so it's often referred to as the Cincinnati Vineyard). One day our senior pastor used the "f" word. He used the word freakin' and evidently was called down on it.
I was in a meeting recently and the speaker used these stories as an illustration of how the church is looking more and more like the world.

He stated that the Cincinnati church runs about 10,000 people and only a handful (like 3) families left because of this.

This minister is very well connected, has over 4,000 pastors who call him pastor, and is in a different church nearly every night. He didn't elaborate the issue just mentioned it in passing, so I don't know if I have the whole story straight, thus I don't want to give his name.

That's why I've asked if anyone has hear of this.

The F-word is okay for presidential candidates, I don't see how an occasion would warrant a use of that word of a pulpit when words like self righteous hyporcite, pharisee, scum sucking pig would ire the religious.
Spoken like a true "modern" Christian

???
I'm hoping this is just a weak attempt at humor on your part.

Did someone say the "F" word was okay? I think what was said is that it is "expected", [especially] of secular people. I expect different, clean, wholesome conversation from Christians.

James 3:10 Out of the same mouth proceedeth blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not so to be.
James 3:11 Doth a fountain send forth at the same place sweet water and bitter?

Ephesians 4:29 Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers.
Ephesians 4:30 And grieve not the Holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption.
Ephesians 4:31 Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamor, and evil speaking, be put away from you, with all malice:

The "Vineyard Church" came up in conversation with some folks recently. What can you tell me about it and their beliefs? You can PM if you'd like

Good post, Ms Bratt.
However, the mere fact that one would even feel the need to post those scriptures on a Christian message board is simply unfortunate.

I know a UPC pastor that did something similar to the cursing thing. He said you are shocked that I would say s*** but you hear it all day, in movies and everything. You act one way then live another, etc. It was quite shocking.

Ephesians 4:29
Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers.

A couple of things:
1. The scriptures have such wonderful counsels. I want to thank God over and over and over for providing this light in a world of so much darkness.
2. If this instruction includes the words we type (as communication) on a discussion board, are we ministers of grace or reckless, unbelieving, sword swingers?

Re: Did you hear about this church?????

I heard that Tony Campolo was speaking once and said something to the effect of,

"Every day over 200,000 children die because they don't have clean drinking water...and the church doesn't give a s***! In fact, most of you are more concerned with the fact that I said s**** than the fact that 200,000 children will die tonight."

Not sure of the exact wording, but it was something like that. It was a shocker to send a message home.

Here's a question...are we more concerned about a can of beer and a four letter word than the fact that 200,000 children will die tonight due to lack of clean water...or that tens of thousands of Americans are dying from treatable illnesses every year simply because they can't afford the treatments they need?

While I fully understand why things like beer and curse words have no place in the pulpit....I have to ask myself...when so much suffering abounds...are we often majoring in minors?

Just a thought.

I don't see how one has to do with the other. As long as there is sin in the world death is going to run rampant and as the scripture states, we will always have the poor with us. This has nothing to do with the example of those who claim to be called.
