Re: Sarah Palin "doesn't consider herself Pentecos

If she had been a Pentecostal the liberal press would have eaten her alive over the supernatural aspects of the religoin. They would have painted her as a nut.

I never had the expectation that she was Pentecostal because I had read that she attended the Wasilla Bible Church and "Bible Church" in a church name indicates (in my experience) a fundamentalist church but one that does not believe in speaking in tongues.

"We did not wear uniforms. The lady workers dressed in the current fashions of the day, ...silks...satins...jewels or whatever they happened to possess. They were very smartly turned out, so that they made an impressive appearance on the streets where a large part of our work was conducted in the early years.

"It was not until long after, when former Holiness preachers had become part of us, that strict plainness of dress began to be taught.

"Although Entire Sanctification was preached at the beginning of the Movement, it was from a Wesleyan viewpoint, and had in it very little of the later Holiness Movement characteristics. Nothing was ever said about apparel, for everyone was so taken up with the Lord that mode of dress seemingly never occurred to any of us."

My church is New Life Bible Church and is the prototypical UPC church, but I agree that oft times Bible in the name means no tongues in services

With such a small minority of new converts receiving the baptism of the Holy Ghost in the Assemblies of God, is it mandatory for their ministerial candidates to possess the Baptism of the Holy Ghost? I dont see how it could be when Holy Ghost filled members must either now or soon will be such a small percentage of the AoG constituency.
I've been told that the baptism in the Holy Spirit is a requirement to be a minister in the AG.

I'm not sure how accurate that is, though.

The majority of AG ministers do not claim the HGB that is from their statistics.

I went to an AG church for 3 years while in my Master's Program and they taught and received the Holy Ghost with evidence of speaking in other tongues. They do not "seek" for the HG they receive it when they are ready. They asssume that when you are baptized you will get it. It is just another tradition we have to 'seek' for it.

Just my observation.

I have a lot of family in the Assemblies of God including ministers and have not found this to be true. Do you have a source for those claims?

I believe the stats are from Pew. I remember that discussion some time ago.

There seems to be some in the leadership of the AOG who are taken aback by this trend and a book by someone from the west coast (cant remember who) is forthcoming.

There seems to be a struggle within the AOG over this very issue.
