Also, people should bear in mind that the terms 'emergent' and 'emerging' mean different things, they're two significantly different streams of thought.
Very true ...but when used in a derogatory sense .... like "charismatic" has been used for years among some OP circles ... who cares what words mean?

Wright states:

I am aware of many of my age cohorts who are indeed taking this approach in their local ministries. Wright is correct in his assessment of the current situation.

I call them hy-brids ... those that are true "relevant" churches, that is.

I had a friend who was being funded as a metro missionary by HMD who had a church named The Journey, (if I recall).
They even had a DJ minister at the church ... (good to see PIMs be used for alternative ideas/ministries *wink*)

Many are keeping the Water and Spirit message but are only keeping platform standards.

That said .... I decided to take up Elder Wright on his challenge to find "relevant" and "journey" UPCI churches in addition to Johnston's church...

I am sure that the following short list are diverse and may or not be as "relevant" as they market themselves:

http://www.kingsfarmupc.org/
http://epicenterchurch.com
http://visitreallife.org (http://reallifedefined.blogspot.com/)

Some questions ...

Do you know of any other "relevant" org or Apostolic churches? Please share them.

Do you agree this is the biggest threat to Oneness Pentecost as Wright seems to imply?

Can Johnston weather the storm that seems to be mounting against this new "fresh face" of the organization?

Will this infiltration of relevant journey churches bring about reform or will they be stamped out?

http://www.flcf.org/ - UPCI / Rob Nigro they fit in the relevant box (or unbox i guess)

Missed you Dan

Aren't OP's by definition charismatic?

Regarding 'emergent' vs. 'emerging' it's good to delineate between the two if you want to appear at all informed about the movement. They're as different as Trinity vs. Oneness godhead doctrines.

I remember Rob he went to CLC. They seem to have a lot of "relevant" folks from that period of time at CLC. So did Sam one of the other pastors there and they are taking their yout to The Call in San Diego, I think they may qualify as "relevant".

Ironic isn't it?

Does a cool website with stock pics of "worldy looking people" make some think your church is too "relevant?
Does a coffee house in the church house make your church too relevant?

The pentecostals of West Monroe are a relevant group. I have been to their youth service slam planet a few times. I just thought it was a lot of hype that there was 300 youth on a Wednesday night but when we took our youth there was right at 400 kids there and they did not disappoint. From music and lights to great teaching the kids loved it and were all praying in the altar.

Now, the question is how long can this go on before the doctrine is seriously questioned and this new crop of youth leaders start to question the three-step message. These folks are three-step but very relevant in their community.

Sam Molenpah is a friend of mine, his dad is Arlo Molenpah the Creationist teacher in the UPC, Sam and I talked on the phone just a week ago. We used to go out to eat about once every few weeks. Awesome folks, growing church, and good all around.

Anyone who allows blue jeans and a button down Tommy Bahama shirt in church for his leaders is top of my list
