I'm reading Lyndon Johnson's biography: "Master of the Senate", covering the years when LBJ was Senate Majority Leader.

LBJ's allies wondered why he wouldn't take on Joe McCarthy even when he had the votes in his corner for censure.

McCarthy and McCarthyism raged on for two more years, destroying many innocent people and ruining many careers before LBJ finally used his influence to ram through censureship on the Wisconsin demagogue.

LBJ knew his chief financiers, reactionary Texas oil men like Clint Murchinson and H. L. Hunt, backed McCarthy to the hilt and politics ALWAYS takes precedence over principle for ambitious men.

Bernard knows he'll never be General Superintendent by taking on Stoneking directly. There's still a bunch of Stoneking fanatics with rose-colored glasses who can't or won't accept the fact he's promoting heresy.

If Bernard and others are really Watchmen on the Wall, there comes a time when you have to use your influence and aura to take on what you consider to be "false doctrine" and the propagators of such.

Lyndon Johnson's beloved hill country and Johnson City are in the Austin area.

Kinda ironic.

You may be right about someone in UPCI needing to sound the alarm and step up to the plate on this issue...but isn't that what Daniel Alicea is trying to do and why we are here on AFF discussing it?

AFF is highly read and people who never post are on here lurking. The alarm is being sounded and by many of us.

I'm not sure what you're trying to say about Ruth Rieder here.

What I am saying about Ruth is that she did not mean to start her own Doctrine but was writing as she was taught. She, like many of us, have had to hold on to what we believed or we would have fallen and not gotten up.

She is an honest and sincere person. I pray that her eyes are open to the damage this particular book has done and will print a retraction. It has also affected my life and that of my granddaughters and I hurt for the many people who live by such unscriptural and irrational beliefs.

The quote below from DB's response seems very LS & RR like;

Bro. Bernard has adequately addressed the issue but does not personalize to cast guilt and blame upon others, but lays the truth before you and leaves it to you to accept or reject.

I agree with you, Rhoni. We can't possibly know DB's motives in writing the email the way he did. I think speaking to the issue is the proper response. Bringing names like, LS or RR, into the discussion, although some may view it as being politically astute, doesn't address the issue but only adds fire to the flames. DB clearly shows the wisdom God has given him by leaving the proponents of the teaching out of the picture in his response to Dan.

Timlan is right about a higher up in the UPC stepping up to the plate and sounding an alarm about this issue but it can be done in a way so as not to alienate brethren but in love and correction.
