Re: LA District Campeeting - Live Webcast

Scott's a very good preacher ... got to meet and shoot the breeze w/ him at my sister's house in Harlem a few years ago ...

He's a Cards fan ... I believe.

I admire his passion for his heritage ...

I do however think that most UPCI meetings, like conferences and campmeetings, .... center around a bunker mentality w/ most messages catering to THE TRUTH that separates them from the rest of the Body of Christ.

It's a template ... a die cast .....

Milk.

I love you, Sherri!!!

Re: LA District Campeeting - Live Webcast

Was Bro. Graham's message intended for AFF?

Has he been lurking here?

I was waiting for each stone to be named. I did hear him mention two stones. Uncut hair and no jewelry.

How many stones are there in a river bottom? Would someone please name at leastl 12stones.

I guess the Church adorned in jewelry as explained in Scripture would be a stone he'd reject ???

I thought the stones were to old paths?

Re: LA District Campeeting - Live Webcast

I missed the sermon but it sounds like the typical "hold the fort" sermon preached at just about every UPC Campmeeting or Conference. I have heard them all of my life.

I always thing it is funny when UPC folks claim these type sermons aren't the main thing anymore yet anytime I go to one of these meetings, listen to a CD of one, or watch them online it is always the same.

"We did not wear uniforms. The lady workers dressed in the current fashions of the day, ...silks...satins...jewels or whatever they happened to possess. They were very smartly turned out, so that they made an impressive appearance on the streets where a large part of our work was conducted in the early years.

"It was not until long after, when former Holiness preachers had become part of us, that strict plainness of dress began to be taught.

"Although Entire Sanctification was preached at the beginning of the Movement, it was from a Wesleyan viewpoint, and had in it very little of the later Holiness Movement characteristics. Nothing was ever said about apparel, for everyone was so taken up with the Lord that mode of dress seemingly never occurred to any of us."

He preached One God, Jesus name baptism, Spirit infilling. He preached heritage(of which I have none), and sounded a bit like Dan when he named Freeman, Barnes, and some others I haven't heard of. He preached a nonphariseeical holiness standard. He would be better than El Predicador when it comes to providing a foil for Dan! LOL

Hebrews 6 tells us to move forward .... from our foundational doctrines ... of course not setting them aside ...

I'd leave these type of meetings hungry ... for more.

They circle the same three stones .... Godhead, New Birth ... Standards ... there's more to the path ....

Do they still need yet another primer???

His message was aimed at the younger generation. He mentioned he had cried on his face to God concerning a friend of his who had left the old paths that had been paved by the previous generations. He quoted from John's gospel about no one can pluck us out of the Father's hands and was asking God how his friend had turned from the truth. God answered him that the friend had wriggled out of God's hand because basically the way was too straight for him.

This is how some rationalize disfellowship even w/ loved ones and friends... IMO ...

God told me ....

Heritage becomes the priority not searching for truth ... or other aspects of revelation ... or agreeing to disagree.

You are so fun to watch, Daniel. Anything negative you will hunt that thing out!! If it isn't there, you find it anyway.
