Is it compatible with my EXcel and etc?

Does it operate different than my Windows XP?

Well, I have been working with the private school that my kids go to to order new computers for their lab, we had to do some looking but finally we were able to purchase with XP rather than Vista. Dell wouldn't offer XP if we ordered after May 15th (maybe? sometime in May). So yes, they are trying to force it on us. Thinking about going with a Mac myself.

My nephew loves his MAC.

Do they have a word program compatible to Windows?

Re: LapTop Suggestions?

Esther,
Just adding to your post from a friend. Hope you find what you want!

The new Hewlet Packard business laptops, 17" widescreen, are unbelievable light and have almost full size keyboards including the keypad on the right. An excellent blend of desktop and laptop. You can also hook an external keyboard to a laptop easily, and some models have available docking stations which make hookup a breeze. It costs more to get a laptop with the same horsepower as a desktop, usually about 300-500 more. All depends on your budget and lifestyle. I buy computers for a Fortune 500 company so that is where this knowledge comes from. Dell is cheaper but I have found their customer service to be poor. BTW, if you want Windows XP, get busy because it won't be sold after the end of June, although some retailers will sell Vista pcs with downgrade rights. Downgrading is not for the faint of heart.

What is the deal about Vista? Is that a new kind of user system, opposed to DOS?

My son also thanks you for getting his father to get a move off the 'thinking' phase and get down to the 'buying' phase (concerning his portable).
LOL compare compare compare.

That is what I usually do, but when I saw this LT on sale for 450 I had to take a look.

My roomie already has an HP like this but more of a lightweight version. I like the HP. The only thing I never liked about it, like a lot of other PCs is all the stuff that comes loaded on it. I usually just remove them

BTW you all can by XP home for $80 and Pro for about $130

Re: LapTop Suggestions?

BTW I am using Vista Home Premium on my laptop. It's not bad. As for your office programs they will probably work with it unless they are ancient versions.

Some things won't work or work right with Vista but the same was true of XP.

Vista is slow in the compatibility department especially with new drivers but that will change.

In some ways I like Vista. It takes a while to get used to but once you do it's not bad. Networking is a snap, however I've had better luck networking with another Vista machine than an XP
