I watched one pick up a squirrel and fly to the top of a tree with it in its talons. They are some strong birds. I wonder how they kill their prey.

Covering it is a good idea. Falconers cover the eyes...when distressed animals like horses are captured or worked on they cover the eyes

hehehe,
Covering a squirrel with a blanket worked when I found one in a church toilet. My daugther captured it by throwing a blanket over it and carrying it outside to set it free.
