I did and was not surprised at the stance he took.
I think I am fairly neutral on this issue. My strongest feeling is that it's not a good idea. But, the facts I know are that the UPCI has been and
IS anti-TV, according to its manual. To advertise on TV is hypocritical and confusing to those outside; those we are wanting to come in (and by "in" I mean "into" the Kingdom, not the UPCI). So, while all the things this man said leading up to his position are true (much the same way a prominent pastor did it at his conference in January [something I
DO NOT fault him for]), the plea for unity is then made based on error.
To be
FOR TV advertising
AS A MEMBER OF THE UPCI is to be the one coming with divisive desires. Those for it
KNEW THIS from the beginning. I can see that so clearly, even though I really have no horse in this race. But, somehow, those who are simply holding to the
ORIGINAL UPCI stance are the ones being divisive. I don't get that? I really don't.
The attitude is clearly portrayed in this man's article, too.
HE has been a member all his life and
WILL BE 'til he dies (or the rapture), but because
HE wants to change the rules the ones who won't "let Him" are the ones being divisive and causing disunity and are thus carnal. I'm not super-spiritual, but I can see the absudity in that thought process!!
Like I said, I think TV advertising is a bad idea, but I won't cause disunity if it passes and my pastor chooses to remain in the UPC. I'll still plug along for souls and support him and the work here in this local church. I just think the attitude that those standing for what the UPCI
ORIGINALLY and
STILL stands for are the ones causing the problems is wrong and backwards. (I say
still, because some are acting like the resolution is already a done deal)
