Question to the OP: Have you not ever asked God for anything that seemed a little "selfish" ?

I tend to take this scripture to heart I guess... Delight thyself also in the LORD: and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart. ~ Psalm 37:4

As long as I put God first in my life, why would he not answer prayers that seem a little selfish.

I don't believe he would answer a selfish request if it were something that would come between me and my relationship with him-- but there are a LOT of prayers that God has answered for me that would probably seem like selfish prayers to some...

I'm sure you're right. Who is she?

I don't even have the tv on. I think AI might be on here now. I'll check.

Dolittle is her last name - she sings last or next to last.

Thanks for the replies.

I really don't know IF God heard (well, I KNOW He heard) that woman's prayer for her daughter. I agree with Felicity on this -- I don't think God answers these except in matters of His will, and I do think that there are things that have nothing to do with nor afffect God's will. They are simply the will of man (ie: winning AI).

Anywho .........

My belief: God could care less about these things. Sure, He might will something to happen in these situations , but it won't be for someone to necessarily win anything. He knows the heart of the pray-er. It would seem most of those hearts are simply asking God to fulfill a selfish desire.

Eh?
God could care less about the things that are important to us? I don't like your God very much at all! Whatever happened to Him working all things for our good? I am assuming that means even the little insignificant things. It might not mean anything to us, who wins AI or a football game or if its gonna rain today. But I guarantee that those things are important to SOMEONE, and to some the results are life changing.

I am not interested in knowing a God who doesn't care about the little seemingly insignificant details of my life. A God like that would to me seem cold, distant and frankly capricious.

I think that God answers the prayers he wants to answer and doesn't answer the prayers he doesn't want to answer.
