Re: Whats the average price of a ministers Home
Some years back a pastor called me and told me he wanted to build us a home...so we were blessed with a home and very thankful for it.
Our oldest son is trying to raise money to buy a tiny house by his church and we will be grateful that he doesn't have to pay rent. Some of our kids live behind churches and whatever...we are not hard to please...

I know of a Pastor who has always lived in an awesome home but his aassistant made just as muich as he did but wasn't a good money manager and to this day rents at the age of 75.

LOL! No thank you. My house has already been through some hurricanes. It's still standing. I'm much safer, although, we will board up and leave if necessary. No trailer for me.

Re: Whats the average price of a ministers Home
Someday our home will be top-of-da-line, and we're NOT ministers.
(Other then hopefully supporting a whole swarm of them all over the world...)

Re: Whats the average price of a ministers Home
Back when I was a teen our pastor lived in the tiniest house you have ever seen. It had two little bedrooms, a bathroom you had to turn sideways to get past the sink in order to get to the toilet, a kitchen that barely held a table for 4 and a living room that could hardly hold a loveseat and a chair.
That was all the church had to offer at that point. And they never once complained about it. Never!
This same pastor left our church eventually to be missionaries in Japan where I feel confident in telling you that they probably did not live in the lap of luxury.
Today this same man got to build a new home a few years ago. NOBODY deserves it more than they do!!!
I don't think we have a right to judge what kind of house anyone lives in. We have no idea the price they've paid earlier in their lives.
~~~~~~
On the flip side, we had a pastor in the Methodist church who lived in the church parsonage. Three bedroom ranch, huge family room, kitchen, dining room, living room, 2 and a half baths, 2 car garage. And this man complained incessantly about how we should get rid of that house and buy him a new 5 bedroom, 3 bath home.
Now in that kind of a case, I believe that the church has a right to judge them - because it's obvious where their hearts are at
Re: Whats the average price of a ministers Home
Miss bratt I do spend my money where I want.
The problem is most UPC pastors pearch tithe or rob God.
So Like may holiness standards, Tithe is included with heaven and hell.
Yet they take 10% and build castles like Saddam.
I am fore being blessed, Iam for spending their money where they like.
,but the question is when is enough enough.
We make fun of the money stealing with other orgs, (TBN) yet we may look the other way at those living high in the UPC.
I know of a UPC minister running about 250 and making over $200,00 a year
also the tithe was for the livite tribe, which included the musicians, youth ministers and all forms of ministry.
Re: Whats the average price of a ministers Home
I'm curious to know how many UPC pastors actually take all the tithes as their income? I know I've been out for many years and that when I was UPC I always attended small churches that barely scraped by. But I don't know that I ever sat under a pastor who took all the tithe. In fact, at least 2 of the pastors I sat under actually ended up paying to pastor the church. In one case his wife worked and he pastored. They are the ones who lived in the tiny parsonage we could provide. So most of their money actually ended up going back into the church to pay church bills. In the other case, the pastor himself worked and so did his wife. And I know for a fact that they put more into the church than anyone else there for years and years and years.
They don't "take" 10% from me--I give it. And in our church the tithe pays the pastor's salary AND pays the church bills.
First of all, there aren't that many living "high." Even those who are can't even compare with folks like the TBNers.
Secondly, being paid a tithe is NOT stealing!
So? $200,000 is a drop in the bucket compared to some of the tv ministries. And quite honestly, it's not living in the lap of luxury. You'd be surprised how your bills can match your income.
I believe that Christians in general should live modestly, and that includes homes, cars, etc. However, that shouldn't be directed at the ministry--it should be something we ALL strive for.
And some elder ministers have worked hard all their lives and they have been given homes and vehicles by their church. It wasn't "taken", and they didn't spend oodles of tithe money to purchase those things for themselves. Are you of the opinion that ministers should sell such gifts and give the money to the poor?
Most churches are not very large, and do not have a large income of tithes and offerings, but those who do usually DO pay salaries to staff, support missionaries, participate in charities, etc. So isn't that in keeping with the Levitical tithe, on principle?
