I want to know where in the Sermon on the Mount Jesus said that we should treat people that work abominations against Him with dignity and respect. It must be an obscure verse.
He seems to believe whatever will help to get him elected. After this any christian that votes for him needs to read the first chapter of Romans.
It's obvious that he's a people pleaser. Nobody has a clue what he really believes or stands for. He speaks of change, but what kind?
I have a feeling that the change he's speaking of is like the kind that the inmates at the state prison once got.
They were all informed that they would all receive a change of underwear. How exciting!!
The warden then pointing said, "You change with you, you change with you, you change with you....."
I have a feeling that's the kind of change that Obama is about. It's gonna be different than anyone will expect.....but hey, he's being truthful about there being a change!!!

People say all sorts of things to their base during primary season that never come to pass when they're elected.
Even if he's Prez this'll never happen. It's too controversial even for O.

Society is probably a whole lot better off if secular governments do not select any particular dogma to legislate enforcement of private civil choices.
IMO, the homosexual advocacy zealots want the marriage status to force public acknowledgement that their lifestyle is a product of nature's diversity and any mention of it being abhorrent would be hate speech.
Barrack's position has a few upsides from my POV:
1. It keeps the focus of society-at-large on marriage rather than homosexual rights.
2. It puts any of his Muslim buddies on notice that he has a position that is strictly taboo in their circles.
3. It causes him to evoke a scriptural reference to his approach to policy...even if he makes a very weak discounting of Romans Ch.1.
4. I am hopeful that society-at-large will be more willing to wade into the troubling aspects of the precedence being sought (marriage) if they think it is seeking a change from civil union status to marriage than from NOTHING to marriage.

So, I went to the Sermon on the Mount as per Osama's suggestion. Couldn't find a thing there on Gay marriage or unions. I'm sure, since he prays to Jesus every night that he must have been thinking of Paul's writings in Romans. Yes, I do recall those words.
Are any of us surprised that in a political contest among men, that the goal is to gather as large a constituency as possible?
Do we demand that candidates in a political process be above reproach before we will cast our vote for them?
It is a political campaign within a fully human club.
It is super-charged with carnal-mindedness. If we examine Barack, fine. Do you really think that any other guys and gals in a similar process are not attempting to gather whatever constituency they can, from where ever they can?
Does somebody need to wake up the master and tell him that we are about to drown?
....just wondering....

"I will tell you that I don't believe in gay marriage, but I do think that people who are gay and lesbian should be treated with dignity and respect and that the state should not discriminate against them. So, I believe in civil unions that allow a same-sex couple to visit each other in a hospital or transfer property to each other. I don't think it should be called marriage, but I think that it is a legal right that they should have that is recognized by the state. If people find that controversial then I would just refer them to the Sermon on the Mount, which I think is, in my mind, for my faith, more central than an obscure passage in Romans. That's my view. But we can have a respectful disagreement on that."
You had me so confused, I thought the paragraph was you talking! Please put it in quotes! I was reading along waiting to know what Obama said!
The scripture in Romans is not obscure but it is as clear as the crystal.
Romans 1:26 For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature: 27 And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet.
lol...Sister read the thread title...."Interesting QUOTE by Obama"...nuff said
