Does anyone know Sister Tudie Thompson from Richmond Indiana? Her son is Brother Bruce Thompson. Sister Tudie Thompson worked the Ice Cream stand at the Indiana camp grounds for years.

She was in an Apostolic church when she was young and Jim Jones was in her sunday school class when she was young.

I have no idea any other history from that point, other then what Sister Tudie Thompson told me.

Ok, so we do have a valid verification that he was in a Sunday School class and some of the others seem like Urban Legend.

My former Pastor is Scotty Teets, of New Life Apstolic Church, in Ozone Park.
If I remember the story correctly, Rev Teets told me that he (Pastor Teets) was told by members of his old church in Indiana that Jim Jones used to go there previously, as a boy. He said a Bro. Vivert was the pastor at that time. Apparently he was a teen preacher, but soon developed a reputation as being strong willed and rebellious, and then later left the Apostolic movement. I'm not sure how old he was when he left Pentecost.

Sister T. Thompson was a ABI graduate, and was in ABI prior to the merger. She is up in years now, but when I spoke with her about it, she said that Jimmy Jones was in her class. I would like to dig up more information on his early beginnings in the UPC. As far as he ever holding license, that story has never been verified.

From the book “Salvation and Suicide: Jim Jones, the People’s Temple, and Jonestown”, by David Chidester. Indiana University Press (190 pages, ISBN 021321632X):

Heres a quote on page 2:

“Jones delighted in telling stories of childhood pranks perpetrated against churches that concentrated on styles of worship at the expense of substantial social activism. One story related how, at the age of seven or eight, Jones packed a hypocritical minister’s Bible, in the Oneness Pentecostal church he attended, with cow manure strategically placed at Acts 2:38."

Jim Jones was most definitely exposed to oneness pentecostalism. He went to Calvary Christian School at Calvary Tabernacle in Indianapolis. There were pictures of him in their yearbooks.
