I agree that a "best ball" tournament is the way to go! Stroke play can get "intense", and with "best ball" it is much more relaxed. I know that I could use a lot of help!
After all, we don't want Apostolics to have a reputation of breaking their clubs when they get together, do we?
The goal of the tournament is fellowship, and I hope we all leave as friends! Can I apologize to my teammates in advance?

I think you are right doing best ball. That way everyone gets to play their own ball, you don't necessarily have to be in the same group with your partners, you can take the final scores of all the competitors and create teams AFTER the round is over and draw blind out of a hat by scoring bands. One thing that is really fun is to have 3 or 4 man teams and you do a "LOW AND ADD" on each hole. That means that the two best scores of the 3 or 4 team members are added together to get the number for that hole. That keeps someone like Pianoman from going out and shooting 3 under and his team blowing everyone out of the water and the rest of the team does nothing. It also means everyone has to play every hole out and do their best instead of going in their pocket on a hole.

We can reserve a block of tee times. Do we want to go threesomes or foursomes? Should we reserve 5 adjacent tee times, or should we reserve more?
We plan to offer a stay and play package deal!
Comments please!

This sounds like an awesome idea. Is there a chance we can do it where airfare and tee times are cheap?...like Vegas?
Edit: Can I stay in CC1's guest bedroom?

Hey, I would love for it to be in Vegas! Mrs. Pianoman sure would too! She would gamble away all of our posessions while I had a nice relaxing day on the course!
The consenses was Nashville because it's a closer drive for most, and Southwest has some good packages from Denver to Nashville too!

I'm sure the format will be open for suggestions like this to make it fair and fun! Your suggestion sounds like a great idea!

I'll make the drive if any other ladies/wives will be there - - - we can join the guys for dinner that evening.

Yes! We'll need to reserve a room at a restaurant to fellowship and gossip in!

Back when I was a Seener... we used to have a group of 40 or so guys that played every Saturday and Sunday from sun up to sun down. We were called the salary cap group. Everyone put up 20 dollars and the money was divided into front and back nine $7 each (paid to teams in 1st thru 3rd in a 60, 25 & 15% split), $5 in a scat pool (individual scats - par or better to win scat), and $5 into a hole in one kitty (carried over until). With that format you never lost more than $20.00 but if you were hot you could win a bunch of money. Of course, since I was a Seener there was always the risk of losing your side bets. Those were the ones that got expensive.

Forget Carp - I need to make reservations at the PM home if Mrs. PM doesn't mind.

Each golfer at our tournament will be required to sign an AS statement affirming that they have no side bets, as gambling is forbidden!!!
