Forget his opinion though. This is a greek scholar saying that both verses can grammatically support the essentiality of baptism for salvation....he does not color that being against baptism for salvation. That is what is interesting

Apostolic is defined on AFF as:

  1. There is One God. This one God reveals Himself distinctly as Father, Son and Holy Ghost.
  2. The Son is God himself in a human form or "God manifested in the flesh" (1Tim 3:16)
  3. Every sinner must repent of their sins.
  4. That Jesus name baptism is the only biblical mode of water baptism.
  5. That the Holy Ghost is for today and is received by faith with the initial evidence of speaking in tongues.
  6. The saint will go on to strive to live a holy life, pleasing to God.

Somehow there must be remission of sins in BOTH repentance and water baptism. Someone now tell us how.

Well, to paraphrase a great preacher, Bro. Bill Clinton, "it just depends on what the meaning of the word for is."

Baptism will ONLY remit the past sins of the repented. One without the other is useless.

I believe that there is a multifaceted process taking place. We know that one is justified by faith alone. When one repents in true faith they are justified before God (justification). Being justified they can receive the Holy Ghost. When one is baptized in Jesus name their sins are officially forgiven and they are washed clean. This is the first step in "sanctification". It's an act of obedience. Once one has taken upon themselves the name of the Lord in baptism and has been born again of the Spirit they are now recipients of "adoption"; now they are a child of God.

Justification (Repentance)
Sanctification (Baptism)
Adoption (Repentance + Water Baptism & Spirit Baptism)

Some are justified but not fully sanctified. Therefore their adoption is incomplete.

Bro. Hall I just cannot see how anyone is justified without recieving remission of sins which in the NT ONLY occurs in baptism in Jesus Name. Dan and myself went round and round over this. I think repentance and baptism justifies a man through the Spirit.

Being justified one can receive the Holy Ghost... and die before baptism in water, and go to hell!!

We may disagree when both remission and justification happen ... but we do agree that they must happen simultaneously ... together ... hand in hand.

Can Hall please support his position that we are "SANCTIFIED" at baptism.

I do believe baptism has a role in sanctification as repentance and the HGB does and walking with God.
We are sanctified by the word. Jn.17:17, Eph.5:26
