The police officer that escorted me this morning to my work location asked me a question. He is Catholic, so this question sort of surprised me.

He said someone told him the apple/or fruit that Eve ate was not a fruit but sexual relations with the serpent.

I told him that sounded like the serpent seed doctrine that the Branhamites teach.

I told him the scripture said they ate of the fruit of the tree and that is what they did.

How would you have answered?

Do you think that Job was a contemporary of Abraham, and does that place him in the Book of Genesis (time wise)?

I had never thought about that before to be honest. I think it is interesting.

It would be good if we could get some bible scholars to come over and answer that question.

One thing about Genesis is that alot of the symbols in Genesis are also in the rest of the Bible. The law of first mention comes into play here.

I like Warren Wiersbe’s four point summary of Genesis.

First of all, he noted that:

It is a book of beginnings: creation; human• history, including marriage; sin and death; the promise of the Redeemer; human civilization; and the Jewish nation. Things that start in Genesis are carried through the Bible and are fulfilled in the book of Revelation.

It is a• book of begetting, describing the family tree from Adam to the founding of the nation of Israel. Ten different genealogies are recorded in Genesis. The account focuses on six persons and their families: Adam; Noah; Abraham; Isaac; Jacob; and Joseph. The questions of marriage and family are answered in the pages of Genesis.

It is a book of believing. Noah believed God and built an ark.• Abraham believed God and left home for the Promised Land. Abraham and Sarah believed God, and He gave them a son in their old age. God gave His promises and then acted on behalf of those who trusted Him, just as He does today. And so the issues of faith and obedience are opened to us in Genesis.

It is a book• of becoming. God patiently worked with His people to make them what He wanted them to be. They failed Him often, but God did not give up on them. He is still the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, and He can accomplish in your life all that He has planned for you. The practical steps to becoming vibrant, complete people of God are also found within the pages of Genesis.

Concerning the book of Job-he no doubt was a contemporary with Abraham as his life span seems to fit that of the other patriarchs living at that time. The book of Job is probably the oldest book in the Bible. It contains more references to creation, the Flood and other primeval events than any book of the Bible except Genesis, and provides more insight into the age-long conflict between God and Satan than almost any other book. Remarkably, it also seems to contain more modern scientific insights than any other book of the Bible.
