I cannot, as an honest minister of the gospel, standing on the plain words of the Bible, prohibit the consumption of wine. In all actuality, I can prohibit it with MY words, but not with God's words.

Everyone has a right and a duty to follow their own convictions. But we cannot preach our convictions as God's word. It is a VERY dangerous thing to mess with God's word.
Excuse me as I SHOCKAMOO over this post ....

The accusations ranged from being called drunkards, being dangerous, and not being a real Christian/minister.

Funny thing is ... I don't drink ...

Moreover, I just can't add to the Word ... there's a curse for doing so.

I don't either, though I'm told that I would benefit from the "Mediterranean Diet" that includes a moderate amount of wine.

But still, I too cannot take away from nor add to the Word of God. It says what it says and we have to conform ourselves, not attempt to change the Word to suit whatever well intentioned fad we are going through at the moment.

That is sho nuff the truth. If all had that mentality we cannot preach our convictions as God's word I wonder how much better off the UPCI would be today. Issues over wine and television just wouldn't be. As my father told me growing up. You know God for yourself and live by the convictions he gives you; not what others are convicted of.
