Berkley
I see and I agree. The Holy Ghost is indeed the "teacher" that he was promised to be! The Truth grows clearer everyday to those who diligently seek Him.

And, most "Oneness" believers that I have spoken with believe this [mis]interpretation.
Now, I am not a scholar, but I read, and had to re-read it again. I don't believe that our interpretation is correct. It now appears to me that the verse "...they understood not that he spake to them of the Father" is an explanation of the previous verse that reads "...he that sent me is true..." and "...I speak to the world those things which I have heard of him..."
Thus, the hearers of the words of Jesus did not understand that the "...he that sent me..." and "...those things wich I have heard of him..."
The "he" and the "him" that Jesus was speaking of is the Father.
That's my conclusion... I prolly lost you, and I know I never had some of you to begin with.

Finally. This is one of those misapplied quotes where we try to fit a square peg in a round hole.
Heres another: 2Jo 1:10 If there come any unto you, and bring not this doctrine, receive him not into [your] house, neither bid him God speed:
What doctrine? Most say the TRINITY doctrine is what John was referring to. But verse 7 clearly shows that John was referring to those "...who confess not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh."
Another: "One Lord, One Faith, One Baptism" This is almost always applied to water baptism. Yet the preceeding verse makes it clear that Paul was referring to the baptism of the Holy Ghost.
This isn't to say the Apostolic Message of One God and baptism in the Name of Jesus Christ is in error. It just shows that in our exuberance to defend our faith, we sometimes mis-apply the Scriptures.

John 5:43 and John 14:26 are good examples of "twisting" scripture to bolster our doctrine.
In both these scriptures the implied menaing of in my name is in the authority of.
It is not necesary to bring these two scriptures in to teach batism in Jesus name.

I've heard this from the pulpit, "Jesus said 'Unless you believe I am God you will die in your sins!'" I even heard it quoted that way on this forum one time.

The problem with Trinitarians, besides their heritage, is that they refuse to be baptized in Jesus name.
That is the soul hook hell anchor baked into the bread of their doctrine.
Otherwise, a misunderstanding of the Godhead wouldn't otherwise be detrimental.
Tis true and I've said it for years that the ignorance and arrogance of overzealous oneness apologetics have cost the Gospel dearly.
If we were just a little more confident (trust in Him) instead of arrogant, and took a little time in sober prayerful study, then we would have the words given to us to properly address these issues.
I think we are coming around...howbeit slowly at first.

Wow... I am so thankful that I am a follower of a twisted doctrine that has no scriptural basis.
I know that is not what you probably mean to be saying but that is what any person other than you will be hearing!
Oh, and I know... you are all just Bereans seeking to ensure that you are right and now some of you are afraid you are wrong... Just keep on seeking until you find yourself with no belief or a universalist belief because you have concluded that EVERYONE is wrong so all must be right!
Geesh!

Yes, Amen! It is so important to study the Word and make sure you believe what you believe cuz YOU understand it to be truth, not what you are TOLD to believe. It took me 30 yrs, but I've started over, and I'm trying to learn daily.
