Re: Social drinking?
Jedi... I haven't done any research on wine, or alcohol content, but have enjoyed reading what you have studied and discovered.

P.S. don't take make wrong if you drink moderately I am not offended by it I just disagree. I love everyone here no matter what there stance and it is good to be able to debate are beliefs By going back in forth we are forced to think outside of the box and both sides learn.

Answer the question, what were they doing at Jesus's first miracle? Werent they drinking socially? If that was wrong, why did Jesus perform the miracle and turn the water into wine? And guess what, they ran out of wine. My guess is there were some drunk folk there. My stance? If you can drink socially and still act right, they drink away. Not everyone can. Just my two cents. It was alcohol in the bible. Anyone who disagrees and says it was welches grape juice is wrong.

Re: Social drinking?
It is not for kings, O Lemuel, it is not for kings to drink wine; nor for princes strong drink: Lest they drink, and forget the law, and pervert the judgment of any of the afflicted. Give strong drink unto him that is ready to perish, and wine unto those that be of heavy hearts. Let him drink, and forget his poverty, and remember his misery no more. Proverbs 31:4-7:
and yes I am aware we could go back and forth in the scriptures however my daddy came to Jesus from the Honky Tonk...I don't want to smell like one...or get hooked on something that has taken down stronger people then me...

Re: Social drinking?
I used to work in construction and we had a family that worked with us that would start guzzling beer as soon as it turned quitting time....I see people so intoxicated in my line of work I dont know how they are still conscious. I have a VERY high alcohol tolerance which is surprising because my parents didnt drink really. Ive only been "drunk" as in "Never.....Again....." drunk one time and I did it intentionally to see what all the fuss was about and # 2 I wanted to test my tolerance level.Yes it was stupid....very stupid and I never ever attempted or had the remote desire to repeat the experience. To me getting plastered is not a enjoyable experience. Its gross and dangerous and really drunk people are some of the most annoying people on the planet.Ask me how many times Ive had to snatch a emesis bag and hold it for a drunk...I have a sixth sense about people that are about to puke now Ive dealt with it so much...it's like a previously undiscovered gift of the spirit called Discernment of Projectile Vomiting.

He was comparing himself to John the Baptist.
John the Baptist drunk no wine.
The comparison is pointless if Jesus did not drink wine.

The fruit of the Spirit is self-control.
self-control works for everything, food, wine, sex, and everything else that is not sin.
Early in the church history there were cults that used the Bible to preach against sex, even that between married couples. They were so good at selectively quoting scriptures that many people joined those early cults and refused to have any sex.
obviously those cults died out.

Re: Social drinking?
It's just safer to place a religious prohibition on alcohol.
You avoid bad alcohol-created situations and you don't have to answer harder theological questions later if you quash personal liberties in the name of religion up front.

Yeah brother, I can just see Jesus now, not allowing a vinegar(wine) to touch His lips on a cross, reflecting back how he used to get a little "buzz" with his disciples back in the day...LOL
Mat 27:34 They gave him vinegar to drink mingled with gall: and when he had tasted thereof, he would not drink.

Re: Social drinking?
I'm antisocial so I drink alone, all by myself, at home while listening to George Thourogood.
