That's a difficult evaluation to make, IMHO. The main problem with the UPC is that the two groups that came together, came together with the apparent intention of converting one another with more vigor than converting "the world."
Baptists have similar issues. Just try and bring an "Independent" Baptist into the SBC. I guarantee the gloves will come off. And don't even try to mingle the American Baptists with the Fundamentalist groups... they're all "lost!"
For some reason, our walk with the Lord seems to have been intended to be an individual experience. Groups are great and needed and even essential in many causes. But still, we all need to walk individually, one by one, hand in hand with the Lord.
