How many people do you think went down the tube with Demas?
He walked with Paul, you know.
Anything substantive to add???
Besides "amening" the status quo?
If the "status quo" and "truth" agree, an "amen" is in order and supports that which is already substantive.

Elder,
Really, from my front porch, what you termed the '"status quo" was actually a clear, competent and accurate exegesis of the Scripture we have been discussing.
CS,
You have my respect and admiration, along with my oft disagreements.
Surely you recognize the reality of power-mongering in the ranks of all churches?
The problem is, you are relating this point (above) to a post that is clearly scripturally sound. Further, you referred to the scripturally sound post as "status quo."
You should make your point differently, IMO.

OK sis, look at the current landscape and tell me with a straight face that the status quo in todays' religiosity (UPC included) and the truth of the NT church agree.
It looks like we were saying the same thing at the same time.
Great minds....

See post 185.
I didn't say your point wasn't a valid one. But you might try springing it off a different post....LOL...basically Actaeon just quoted scripture and rephrased it.

While I also hate the 'someone else has it worse than you' phrase, it's a true statement.
When I put myself into those shoes, I am thankful that I don't have it worse than they do.
Not long ago, I was having a bad day at school, in tears and such with all the stress, and was venting to a friend.
When I was finished (she listened to me the entire time), I asked her her day went. She informed me that he husband had lost his job.
Wow, did I feel really stupid! I go on and on about how bad my life is having no idea the blow she received that day.
This is a minor example, but while I felt that my problem was so enormous, I felt really bad at projecting it that way.
No matter how bad I have it, there is someone worse off, and most of the time, I know that person. Most of the time, they don't complain NEAR as much as I do, and when I see myself that way, I feel bad.
This is not reflecting Mich's attitude in any way, because she is a friend of mine, and I know some of her struggles, and she is a person who has it worse than I in many ways. I lift her up in prayer often and know that God is continually working in her life. I wish I was as spiritual as she is.
