MissB, there's just so much propaganda that it is difficult to dig and find the truth, but I do believe that the first necessity is a measure of objectivity. I just want to pull my hair out when I see people bash Obama for allegedly not voting and ignore the same issue with McCain.
Noone is responding to the fact that the National Journal study that we use to label Obama as the most liberal Senator point blank stated that of all the major primary candidates, it was McCain who had skipped too many votes to be graded. According to their policy, any member who missed more than half of the votes in the three major categories would not be scored. McCain missed more than half of the votes in both the economic and foreign policy categories.
My point is that if you had a huge problem when you thought that it was Obama who was skipping votes on key issues (I would consider the economy and foreign policy to be rather important), you should have a problem when you discover that it was actually McCain who was woefully absent in these areas....but partisanship does not allow for that kind of balance and accountability.
Due to hurricane issues, I am unable to get online at home. I was certainly expecting some sort of feedback on some of these points. I think honest looks in the mirror are important at this juncture in our nation's story. I am a little surprised that some of these points I make or questions I ask basically generate no response.

I was studying on that last night, Stew. I'm not ignoring your post!
It's so involved as to the Present and absent vote. A Present vote is used many times to protest bills believed to have been drafted unconstitutionally or as part of a broader legislative strategy. Sometimes it is simply a quick way to duck a difficult issue.
Obviously, both being politicians they used that "present" vote to the advantage of their party.

I'm just saying that I wish people were more balanced and objective in dealing with politicians (who live to maneuver and deal in misconceptions). If something is a negative for one it should be a negative for all, and not voting on more than half of the issues related to foreign policy and the economy is very negative and nobody should have a problem seeing that. At the end of the day it was McCain that fell into that category in the very same study that so many people have referenced here on this forum. I don't think we can afford to become so partisan that we don't hold politicians accountable just because they are representing our "team".

You mean Obama uses the "present" vote to the advantage of his own record. He is too scared to rock the boat so he voted present many more times than McCain did. Obama is what many call an "empty" suit.

Stew,
I think, in this case, we trust McCain with national security and he did try to take care of the Fannie-Freddie issue with S190 in '05 - soooo - we just - honestly - want to tank Obama.

No, not necessarily on every issue. Sometimes they vote "present" just to put the vote in a minority state. It's not always a duck.
I think we have to look at each and every vote and see what we perceive is the reason - for each candidate - to be fair.

I honestly want him tanked.
How's that for honesty, my friend?!!
I'm not suggesting that you support Obama. I'm suggesting that we don't allow partisanship to remove objectivity and accountability because at the end of the day we will get jobbed by any politician if that happens as it has been happening for some time now.
Why are we not even willing to apply the same criticism and questioning to McCain when we see that he is actually the one who was negligent in voting.

Stew,
I don't think I ever commented on his "present" or "no" vote. I see what you are saying, but I never hit on that aspect of his person or campaign.

Neither one of them can vote "present" in the US Senate. John McCain has missed significantly more votes than any other member of the current Congress. I don't understand what people are missing or seeing when they accuse Obama and give McCain a free pass. I guess you have to have your blinders or goggles handy
Okay I feel better now.
