Why not?

If cussing is "very socially acceptable", then why is cussing in the open public socially unacceptable? Why is cussing every other word unacceptable?

As far as something being wrong because it cannot be said in front of children... we don't talk about sex in front of children either. Does that mean talking about sex is wrong?
We don't? LOL!!!! My kids have been thoroughly educated by the neighborhood dogs, horses and cows. Add to that, the fact that we directly answer every question they ask, and I would say that yes - we talk about sex.

Obviously we don't share explicit details of OUR sex life, or discuss sex in an explicit way - but that would not only be inappropriate for children, but also inappropriate for any adults in our life. Ergo, that's not the best analogy.

I like the Good News Bible translation:

Colossians 4:6 "Your speech should always be pleasant and interesting, and you should know how to give the right answer to everyone."
At least I got part of it right.

Throwing the gay inference at me doesn't hurt me. It implies that something is "wrong" with a gay person and takes yet another shot at them. It gets old.
OK NOW, just I don't misunderstand this. Are you saying I engaged in "gay slander" or "made fun of gays"?

Well, what exactly did you mean here? Let's review the facts:

1) I say, "You know you love me" and include a heart, hug and friends smilie.

2) You say, "You've started two or three gay threads. When I consider that, along with this post, I"m worried about you".

Does that describe it well?

It doesn't take a nuclear physicist to figure out the insinuation there. And the tone is, "Eeeewwwwww, you're sounding gay" and I'm reasonably certain it was said in jest.

So you tell me.....from the viewpoint of a gay person, how would that feel?

Furthermore....

One of the things kids, even young adults, heck even grownups, will do is joke around with their peers when something happens and say something like, "Oh gross, you homo."

Maybe you're comfortable with that kind of humor. I'm NOT. When the butt of the joke is the characteristics of a certain "kind" of person, I don't think it's cool.

Re: Offended by the World

Where does the idea that we are warring against culture come from?

What about culture are we "warring" against? That we are at odds with?

I think if we really think about that question and come up with meaningful answers, we'd do better understanding how we relate to the fast-moving world around us (and the world that we are part of -- that we are in).

In not of. In which ways? What is the vices of "the world" we hear in scripture?

Hate, injustice, jealousy, contempt, selfishness, anger, sexual deviance, short-fused over long-suffering... basically the opposite of everything in 1 Corinthians 13.

Colossians 4:6 "Your speech should always be pleasant and interesting, and you should know how to give the right answer to everyone."
Col 4:6 - the context being doors opening for people in cities they visit... Use your heads as you live and work among outsiders. Don't miss a trick. Make the most of every opportunity. Be gracious in your speech. The goal is to bring out the best in others in a conversation, not put them down, not cut them out.

This doesn't mean "no using words that you make up and call 'cuss words."

Look, I'm not pro-potty mouth syndrome. But neither am I setting up my camp against. What makes our speech gracious and ungracious is what we are saying. There's an appropriate place and time for everything.
