I cant believe this thread is still going. seems to me the short answer should have been "not much"
I grew up in a church that was always very much connected to the UPCI on the national stage. My home church produced A. T. Morgan, T. F. Tenny. Geroge Glass Sr. and a whole host of others that have served as presbytors and teachers in our colleges and sectional leaders and Youth Division Heads. and now a former pastor is an Executive Presbytor.
NEVER in my life do I remember ANY pastor getting up and telling the church about what went on in the business meetings.
I am friends with the current pastor there, and he intends to run Ads for the church. He has not had open discussions with the church about what has gone on in the business meetings.
The idea that this should happen, or that some trust is violated when a pastor doesnt share what is happening in the GC Business Meetings is just plain silly.

You must have seen NYLP running those halls...

I am not very happy about some of the stuff that has been sifting through the organization lately.
I don't like the fact that this extremely divisive tv resolution was allowed to keep coming back by the resolution committee year after year in a crass abuse of our electoral process, fomenting division and unrest.
I am very much an admirer and supporter of our foreign missions efforts.
I have served in sectional and district offices.
But I don't pastor the church as if it were a daughter work of WEC.
That doesn't mean I don't like the UPC; it just means I try not to let the sometimes fickle meanderings of a minister's fellowship have overwhelming sway in the congregation I am privileged to lead.
Edited to add:
I am very blessed with great leadership locally. My presbyter is one of the finest men I have ever known, and my DS is also a great man. I support them 100%, and they are the main reasons I still remain licensed.
Very well stated Br. Coonskinner

Brad, nothing you quoted identifies saints as "members" in the same sense as ministers are.
They don't pay dues, and they aren't subject to judicial procedure.
We are really arguing a very fine semantical point here, and one that I am about done talking about.
There is definitely an associaton, but that is not the same as membership.
Sigh, I wrote a long post but I give up. How do you argue when you present someone with direct facts, and they refuse to acknowledge the facts presented from the manual which defines the very thing you are arguing about.

Great points, Ferd.
I know some on here will go on tilting at windmills, but your experience has been repeated in most every church in the UPC...and it has worked.
AFF won't ever be the official complaint department that any pastor looks to for answers. I suppose this thread can go on, but it's a tree falling in an empty forest.

I think what some people were responding to was the statement that "most of the saints in my church wouldn't even know who Kenneth Haney is..." or words to that effect.
I agree that no pastor would want to bring up any news of infighting or highly controversial issues. The local church is supposed to be a place of healing.
But to imply that the GS is practically unknown is to reveal a level of ignorance on the part of the average saint that shows they've been shielded from more than just the fussing that goes on.

I dont really agree with that. my current pastor isnt going to leave the UPCI. I dont know where he stands no the TV issue. My former pastor and now Bishop of my church was just elected Executive Prebytor. Most of the people in my church wouldnt know Brother Haney from the post man. I think that is pretty common. I dont think it is just something that Cons are doing. I think it is just the way it is for Con, Mod and Lib churches.
