The way you handle this is like the kids do. When a guy say something to another guy that could be construed as gay they follow it up with "No Homo."

- Every sinner must repent of their sins.
- That Jesus name baptism is the only biblical mode of water baptism.
- That the Holy Ghost is for today and is received by faith with the initial evidence of speaking in tongues.
- The saint will go on to strive to live a holy life, pleasing to God.

Yep, there are many Christians who wouldn't dare utter a so-called "Cuss word", but can throw the gay slander around with no problem.

I think it's prudent to refrain from both.
"Let your speech be always with grace...."
I like the Good News Bible translation:
Colossians 4:6 "Your speech should always be pleasant and interesting, and you should know how to give the right answer to everyone."

I think it's "Prudent" to refrain from socially unacceptable language and far worse to make fun of gays and continually throw homosexual inferences at others for the purpose of supposed humor.
Throwing the gay inference at me doesn't hurt me. It implies that something is "wrong" with a gay person and takes yet another shot at them. It gets old.

Most obscenities and curse words are still considered "socially unacceptable language." If you don't agree, look at the reaction when a congressman (or President) uses a curse word; the media acts like they've murdered someone. People are shocked and offended. Some are offended because they think the words are offensive, and others are offended because they think it's out of keeping with the person's (who used the word) personal values.
It's a paradigm where people expect others to behave better than they do. IMO, Christians should live up to that expectation as much as possible, and nothing is gained by peppering our conversation with slurs, foul language or other offensive diatribe.
Foul language is simply inexcusable and unnecessary. My daughter and I were in the laundromat a couple of summers ago while on vacation. A woman came in with a little girl, who I assume was her daughter. She was cussing her daughter out, using the *f* word, called her a *b*, and was using other colorful words. Sarah looked at me in shock, and I looked back with the exact same shock. I would never talk to her "like that", let alone use those words. I call that abusive behavior.
So: if foul language is okay, why is it offensive to use it in front of children, and abusive to talk TO your children using those words? Why do people turn and apologize if a word slips in front of a child, or some men will apologize if they let a word fly in a woman's presence? Is that because they think the apology is expected or because they recognize their own offense?
I'm aware that certain words are "adult", and that's part of the reason. But from the perspective of being a Christian, shouldn't our whole conversation be wholesome and uplifting to anyone in earshot? That would obviously exclude racial epithets and slurs against homosexuals as well as other obscenities.

Cussing is very socially acceptable. Cussing in open public is generally not socially acceptable. Cussing every other word is generally not socially acceptable.
"Foul language is simply inexcusable and unnecessary". Something being unnecessary isn't really a good argument for why it shouldn't be done. Having a One-Eyed-Devil-Box is unnecessary also. Yet I bet you have one. But the kicker is that some people even think owning one is inexcusable because of how foul those things are. Does that mean we should all just not have one eyed devil boxes? No. Just because someone finds something "inexcusable" does not mean no one should do such a thing.
As far as something being wrong because it cannot be said in front of children... we don't talk about sex in front of children either. Does that mean talking about sex is wrong?
