I appreciate that. Here is the approach I take on these things. Can a person make a biblical case that a pair of shorts are literally themselves a sin? Probably not. But it can open the door to things and it can lead us down a path that ends in sin. I believe these principles were established by those before us with wisdom and there isn't a sacrifice I could ever make that would be too much to stay away from the things that would bring damnation to our souls. Therefore, I refrain from and encourage others to refrain from some of these things. Sin costs too much at any price.

You can't be saved without turning toward God, and away from your unbelief -- or an inflated belief in other gods (ourselves being one of our biggest gods).
I'm quite sure Adino believes repentance, turning toward God, is what happens when someone believes. But I'll let him speak to that on his own.

Funny; you can say this, and fellow conservatives no doubt applaud. I can say something similar and people start asking me if I've had some "revelations" recently.
I feel that we have the freedom to apply biblical commandments and principles to whatever extent we feel personally necessary. If someone believes that shorts are immodest, they shouldn't wear them. However, if a case can't be made they they are sinful using the Bible, then perhaps it shouldn't be preached or taught that way. IMO, it's much better to say, "be modest" and "I don't feel that shorts are modest and here's why" than it is to say, "Wearing shorts is a sin and will send you to hell."
Applications and interpretations should never be confused with Biblical commandments.

Re: Survey About Doctrinal Beliefs
Underlying most of the standards thread is not "what is most pleasing to God" but even deeper "will I lose my salvation?" Once you settle the latter question, serving him is done liberally, with joy -- and we are straining gnats

shorts are going to to lead people where? to wear speedos? i don't know anyone that has made that kind of leap. Shorts are a blessing. It's hot outside. Sometimes it's good to catch a breeze, for procreation reasons. The boys need to be 2 degrees cooler than the rest of the body.

As far as obesity goes, I sliced and diced nothing and have no idea what you're talking about. I simply said that obesity is NOT a sin and there are several physical disorders that result in obesity that have NOTHING to do with behavior. Obesity CAN be the result of sin, but it is not a sin! Saying that obesity is a sin is like saying pregnancy is a sin. I can be the result of it, but it's not sin. And I absolutely DO believe that gluttony is a sin and I said so previously. You're putting words in my mouth that I never said.

I never called you a Big Baby. I did use the Forums smiley list, so talk to Admin about the the guy with the hanky or the violin if you don't like my posts.
I'm not angry...
Wait, am I hearing you right? You condemn people because of wearing lip gloss, yet people can eat until their body falls apart, inside and out, and you think that's OK????
See, you're cornered with, hold your breath ladies and gentlemen, THE FACTS!
You accept one thing that is wrong, but not another. This is exactly what happens with people who try to build a Religious Utopia. It’s not long, and human failure begins to rise up within a Religious circle. There is no avoiding this. It is the plight of every Faith. This leads to justifying these rising faults within a Religion, as long as you don’t violate the main core of beliefs. Before long the faction becomes motivated by Fear, as a movement wants to show no weakness or sign of failing from past dogmatic claims. Out comes the “Smoke and Mirrors” or the fake idea that everything is OK. We hide the suicide, the depression, and the weak behind our “Holiness”.
This whole process creates blindness if mercy isn’t granted to others of differing opinions or failure.
Apostolics have been an arrogant, self righteous bunch in the past, labeling all who don’t follow our idea about Scripture as “Hell Bound”, and this little pile under the carpet has been discovered.
I find it amusing that we can fail to remember who actually murdered Jesus Christ. It wasn’t sinners; it was those who held dear to their hearts the Traditions of Men and who served the Temple with teaching and the Word of God.
We are no different. We can duplicate this same sin.

It's either a slippery slope or a sloppy slip? I'm not sure...

Well, I don't know, the first post after I said that is Socialite making fun and laughing.
Shorts may not have been the best example but I do believe they are immodest and certain kinds of shorts most definitely are. But in any of these cases it seems the wise and prudent approach is to avoid the things that could lead us into problem areas and just stay away. What difference, really, does it make if I get to wear shorts or not? ARe shorts really worth fighting for? Or any of the other things? I'm not interested in how much I can do and not sin, I'm interested in staying as far away from it as possible!
Some seem to almost take pride in what they're able to do, not realizing they're headed for danger. I would just as soon stay from it all. I'm not missing a thing and filled with the joy of the Lord!

Actually, you're not hearing him right; OP didn't say that. He stated clearly that gluttony was a sin.
