I said that too - it probably looked much better in person but it didnt do much on tv.
I'm sure it didnt make her look that "hippy" in person but the crystals, or whatever they were looked exactly like the 3D details on my grandmas chenile bedspread LOL

Yes, I do like that. I think she would have to or you'd hear a rumble, but I'm glad she did. I also noticed they were immigrants - from Taiwan and Cuba. I wonder if we have any American born designers they would like to pick? They did say they want to reach the global community.
I was looking at a video clip of Laura Bush showing a tree with Christmas ornaments. Each state Governor was asked to seek out a local artist and commission them to design an ornament for the White House Christmas tree this past year. I thought that was awesome also.

Re: Michele Obama's dress
and about her other outfits..she's had some interesting choices all week - color wise and style...
I dont think she was really trying to do anything, to immulate anyone or do anything dramatic. I think she wears what she likes and that's it.
They did say this morning the girls coats were special made by jcrew that you couldnt buy them, YET...and that so many people got on jcrew yesterday they crashed their site.
supposedly the designers didnt know what she would choose to wear (the ball gown) but it appears the "lemongrass" number was designed for her for the occasion and was supposed to be "warm" so she wouldnt have to wear a top coat. She chose the green accents herself
I dont care who she is or what the occasion was, I didnt care for the outfit in that setting - seemed to early in the day for something that dressy and she really needed a coat, IMO

For someone as large as she is, I think the white didn't do her justice. Her lemongrass inaugural dress brought out the gold tone of her skin. I didn't like all the "knotty" looking stuff on her ball gown. But, I guess that's an individual choice.
I really don't think she would have worn that if she didn't feel comfortable in it. Women just don't wear something to any event and especially one that important if they don't feel comfortable.

I thought they said the woman who designed the lemongrass dress was cuban-american - I assumed that meant she had one american parent?
they were on the today show as I was leaving for work this morning, I didnt pay them too much attention b/c they obviously dont have much experience in interviewing b/c their answers didnt match the questions, they werent giving the answers they were going for LOL

I think that is the only thing she did for sure - she wore what she wanted and if she'd have found something off the rack at macys, I'm sure she would have worn it...
I also wonder how long her "off the rack", "everyday woman" approach will last? LOL
think she'll do much shopping at target in the next 4 years?

LOL! I absolutely loved the lemongrass outfit - not the pumps, but I loved it!!! Actually, I looked on line last night for a replacement shoe - ended my search at Prada. I couldn't find anything better than what she had on. Initially, I thought a suede pump would go well, but after viewing some, I changed my mind. I would have gone with something the color of my gloves though. I still wonder at her shoe choice.
