How would we know they are adulterers or homosexuals? How do you know the people you are doing business with over the internet are adulterers or homosexuals or not? It's been known to happen that even in church someone teaching kids was an adulterer or even a homosexual.

What about in schools? Not everyone can afford private schools or to homeschool.

Some accounts get spam more than others. Yahoo is bad. The other problem is if you ever gave your email address out to a company to receive information. Sometimes they sell the list of email addresses to others.

As I see it, there is no scripture for either side that defends or upholds a technological prohibition or permission...scripture simply tells us what the works of the flesh are and to avoid them...it also tell us to set nothing wicked before our eyes...for David it was a bathing woman and not a screen...there have been more men fall to entertaining feelings at the office with a co-worker than with a tv for sure...

What do we do preach against going to work? The answer here is a definite "No". We preach self control and accountability.

There is no doubt that more people have been tripped up by the internet than by tv...the internet gives the opportunity to view porn in secret, to foster relationships in secret, and to view things that are not even available through any TV feed--including pay channels...the secret to not entertaining the works of the flesh on the internet boils down to self control and accountability...

Same goes for TV...without self control and accountability one can indeed fulfill the works of the flesh on this medium...to those who feel they cannot control it, it would be best to abstain...even I preach that...LOL...but I preach the same for the internet!

Bottom line to me is whatever is a hindrance...cut it off!

BK, for those of us on this side of the debate....we just have a hard time understanding why one would allow the internet and be so dead set against TV on the basis of a "garbage can" point...it would make much more sense to simple say, "We preach against TV because that has been our landmark and we are not moving it no matter how technology morphs together or changes..."

Surly you can see what we hold as the point of not understanding the no-tv/pro-internet stand....there is so much more garbage on the internet than TV it is unbelievable. Matter of fact, since the FCC has NO jurisdiction over the internet---like they have over tv---it is even more dangerous (right now the only jurisdiction over the internet is law enforcement personnel going after child porn stuff, other than that there is NO jurisdiction over internet content...even in most libraries). There are many things available here that are not even allowed on pay porn channels on any TV feed including satellite...and you can find them for free...
I agree with you on this one, but it helps sharpen our sword, and what about people who are on the verge of having one, and not having one, and they are on here looking at this? You could pursuade them to, and we can pursuade them not to!

And it's not just because of the "garbage can" thing. We also feel like there are some other issues with it.

I never said that was what I watched it for. First of all I don't even have a TV. When I do watch it's for my entertainment. I also go on the internet like to this place for entertainment.

That is all beside the point I made. The TV can be a tool just as the Internet is.

BK is a good kid. Some of you are really wrong for
tearing a young person who has his convictions.
You are trying to talk him out of his beliefs

look at all the youth we are having problems
with - It's a good thing that we have this young
man who is trying to stand for something even
if you don't agree with it you shouldn't mock it

That is a true statement. It's not the tool that is good or bad, it's how it is used.

Email can be used for evil. Bad nasty messages can be sent to unsuspecting folks, maybe even sent to the wrong email address. I once received an email sent to me by mistake, not a bad one, and in the course of correspondence to let the guy know he had the wrong address, I found the guy a Pastor to baptize him and his wife in Jesus name. It's amazing how God can take a tool that some would use for evil and use it to the saving of souls.

So could a televised anointed message of Truth be a good use for a tool?

Hold to your convictions, but don't condemn others who may not see it exactly as you do.

I'm currently working on whetting the appetites of my children by exposing them to the arts, to good music, to good literature, to well-made films, etc. And you're implying that is whetting their appetite for...what, exactly?

Let's see if I can make this clear and logical for you:

Right now my children are reading Nancy Drew. Later it will probably be Walt Whitman or Jane Eyre.

Right now my children like watching Animal Planet. Later it will probably be HGTV or Mythbusters.

What in the world leads you to connect the dots between "bored with Disney", must watch "something R-rated????"
So are you saying that they don't watch Disney? Besides that, do you not think that they will get curious about other things, just like a young person will do, and not visit such places like HBO, or TNT, or even watch movies where it might be PG now, but the world is getting more and more wicked, to where what used to be rated R, is now PG and PG-13.

That's cool...BTW, I am not interested at all in persuading people one way or the other on TV. I am no crusader for things more liberal...I just want to live my life trying to please God and follow his plan for my life and let others out here in forum land do the same.

If you truly believe that a no-tv/pro-internet stand is a valid one...good for you! I would not want to persuade you otherwise, simply because I am not responsible to answer for you or to help you in times of trouble.

Keep your nose clean Bro and have great church tomorrow!

I have seen so many lies posted. The best one is the one Triumphant 1 did his best to combat. You know, the hair cutting party thing?

Prominent members of this board chose to believe the lie and even continue to spread it, even though T1 had totally proved it was false.

Your right.....for those churches that are taking a stand against TV...it really isn't just TV anymore. Technology is so far advanced. For my family, what you said above sums it up. We're not moving the fence....we are going to continue to stay far away as possible because we feel like there is a danger.
