Clothing and our outward appearance is important though. We're judged immediately on how we look ....... how we present ourselves ..... and people get an instant impression of the kind of person we might be, based on how we "look". Like it or not, it's true. And as born again believers we have a responsibility to be proper representatives of the One we serve.
There should be no "lackadaisical it doesn't matter" attitude on our part.
I agree that Scripture says God looks at our heart. But He can, because He is God. People can't see our hearts. Our appearance and our actions represent what is in our hearts.
Perhaps most of the time, but not all the time. While I agree that people see our appearance and not our hearts, we can deceive others by our appearance. We see it in churches all the time! LOL!

you would? Do our missionaries wear robes in the middle east or Africa?
I can tell you they do!!! Bruce Howell showed up at a church I attended a few years ago in an African robe!! He looked hot and everyone commented on his pretty dress!! LOL!!!
Quote:
what about those cultures that wear next to nothing?
many cultures wear attire that is connected to their pagan practices which is connected to the worship of false gods (india, africa).
thus, I do not believe that culture dictates modest apparel alone
There are cultures where women go topless and men wear only loincloths, but in their culture, that's modest, and to suggest that their women cover up would be insulting. They don't view nakedness like we do here. Even in Bible days, nakedness in certain circumstances was normal. Peter fished naked. Isaiah preached for three years naked.
Us Americans have made something of beauty to be dirty.

True.
Well, let's change the word to 'should' then. Our appearance and our actions should represent what's in our heart.
Regardless whether they do or not, there's no excuse for not dressing appropriately and according to Scriptural principle and teaching.

Agreed!
I don't think discussion about what you say above should even be had on this forum! The problem is, some want to dictate what's appropriate and scriptural in regard to specific items for women. Men can wear whatever they want, pretty much.

I'd love to continue this, but I have to get to bed. I'll be back tomorrow evening to continue this for those who still insist that 'women shall not wear pants' is in the Bible!!

OK that's where you and I have a departure. How sad the day when a naked women's body is not a sexual thing to me!
I would rather die.
I would argue that God himself put this in me, but if not - thanks be to the Red White and Blue!!

To insinuate that Bruce Howell advocates women wearing Britches because he wore an ehtnic getup to a missions service is ludicrist .
just because we wear ancient type dress for a drama does not mean we now are making a public statement that we now advocate men wearing dresses. how do you come away with such logic ????
HO, just because culture allows a bunch of heathens to run around butt nekid does not believe God Approves of it.
Surely they must be Levi's to be holy. Because Lee's aren't in the Bible.
Waytago' Cindy,
I was waiting to see who would pick up on that point. LOL
