I rounded the corner into the frozen section with my carton of beer and just a few more items (and by few, I mean really--2-3 other items!), and who should I run into? Mr. Evangelist and his wife. *sigh* They were preaching a revival at a local church, but they knew me and I knew them. TO MY CREDIT, I carried on a conversation while looking them straight in the eyes. I never blinked and they didn't mention the obvious. However, I'm sure the red was flooding up from my neck to my forehead while I stood there pretending there was nothing awry in my grocery cart. There's no telling what they thought or said after they left, but hopefully it was something along the lines of, "I'll bet she's baking up some beer bread!!!"

Btw, in Oklahoma, you have to go to an actual liquor store to buy anything other than beer or wine coolers.

Moral of the story: Now JEFF goes to the store and buys whatever liquor we require. I refuse to buy it anymore. This is probably a selfish choice, I admit it.

That is a great story MissB... I thought you might have one like that up your sleeve, since you cook with alcohol quite a bit. I love it!

Confession time... the only alcohol I have in our house is a bottle of wine that came to us as a gift. We had invited friends over to dinner, and they asked if they could bring along a single mom who was a friend of theirs. Of course, I was glad to add another place at the table. She showed up, and in her hands was a bottle of wine with a nice gift tag. She placed it on the table. I guess she expected us to put it to good use. LOL. (We didn't.)

We still have that bottle of wine, lol. So... I'm thinking of dusting it off, and proudly displaying while I'm cooking, as I think of your story at the grocery store

Re: What's for Dinner Tonight?

Combining the spices from this recipe, which I made last week and it was awesome!...

Roast Sticky Chicken-Rotisserie Style

4 teaspoons salt
2 teaspoons paprika
1 teaspoon onion powder
1 teaspoon dried thyme
1 teaspoon white pepper
1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
2 onions, quartered
2 (4 pound) whole chickens
Bake @ 250 for 5 hours.

BUT cooking it this way...., except slower as in the recipe above. I've been wanting to check this out.

Rock Salt Roasted Chicken

This technique called for roasting the chicken on a bed of rock salts and I had never done that before. I thought it was a brilliant idea. So, I tried it. And I fell in love with it. Don’t worry, the bed of rock salts do not make the chicken taste like salt. Instead, the salt bed locks in the moisture and infuses the whole chicken with an insane amount of flavor. The results are juicy, tender, flavorful chicken and crisp, delicious, out of this world skin.

Will be ready at 6:00 and it is looking great! Forgot I had company coming in for the weekend. Duh!

Ooh... this looks so good. I had actually printed out this recipe from another website, forget which one, maybe Tasty Kitchen. I bought two organic chickens at Costco and have em in the freezer, hopefully gonna thaw and cook this weekend. Interested in hearing how they turn out!

Awesome! Now that would be great with grilled asparagus, sweet potatoes and broccoli.

Making this on Sunday. Just mixed up the spices.

Smokey Roast

And I do have to have a dessert, so I am making Tiramisu. I found this sponge cake instead of the store bought ladyfingers. Am going to use rum extract.

Re: What's for Dinner Tonight?

Have you ever cooked meat before with coffee grounds PO?

A family member cooked some steak for us with coffee grounds, and I wasn't real impressed, as the coffee grounds were still crunchy.

I'll be interested in hearing how your roast turns out with the coffee grounds, cinnamon, and cocoa powder - sounds like a far-out combo that just might be awesome!
